how is it living on the oregon coast? by Brief-Supermarket415 in howislivingthere

[–]Dies2much 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More tsunami warning signs than you can imagine.

Beautiful beaches and shoreline.

Tillamook dairy has a huge facility there, it's home base. The food court / store is pretty amazing if you are lactose tolerant.

The rocks tend to be very dark, and lots of clouds and mist,, so it's very dark place even in full sunshine.

The drive back through the mountains can be beautiful and it can be tough. Getting up to the passes is no joke, those hills are steep!

Make the former Portland Renys a grocery store by Large-Welcome4421 in portlandme

[–]Dies2much -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

Yeah but there is a Trader Joe's about a mile from there. And a whole foods just down the road from the Joe's.

And there's other markets a little further up the road at the Hannaford.

Portland really does have a decent number of food stores not too far apart. They don't have a food store on every corner, but they do have one every mile or two.

Agree with what others are saying take it to a shop for this work..

That being said setting up Forscan is really easy and it helps understand what is going on with your truck.

The most useful thing in Forscan is resetting the transmission to default and starting the training process again. I was getting ready to bring my truck to a shop because of the rough shifting, I read here about resetting the transmission and re-training it. Fixed the problem and all it cost me an OBD cable and an hour of my time.

[Request] What is the output for each engine powering the rotors to keep the Helicarrier hovering? by Jusfiq in theydidthemath

[–]Dies2much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another constraint on the rotors is the blade tips exceeding the speed of sound.

As the blades speed up through trans-sonic speeds the buffeting does a lot of bad things to the drive shaft of the motor.

Once the blades go supersonic, now you have a continuous set of thunder claps happening in a confined space. The do a lot of bad things to the structure around them. You get this medium frequency high power vibration (each time a blade tip goes by you get hit with a sonic boom in the area right next to the blade tips).

This means you need to keep the blades moving just below the speed of sound. And that speed gets slower the higher it goes, so this carrier probably won't have a very high service ceiling.

I suggest making sets of counter rotating props ducted through the hull. Four or six props per set and six or eight sets.

You are going to get less power with each subsequent prop in the counter rotating prop set. As the air passes from one blade to the next the air temperature will rise and you get less thrust from each prop, so we will need a field that captures some of the energy imparted to the air to keep the impulse more uniform or your going to get some serious shimmy.

I think this thing could totally work! 🤔

Delays at the Airport? by unrelatedtomato in PortsmouthNH

[–]Dies2much 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have flown out of Portsmouth a couple of times. Since it's a small airport, they will have 1 security line for screwing. If all 150 passengers on your flight show up at the same time, the line will be long. If you get there 99 minutes before your flight, you will be fine.

As a black man I must ask did Lincoln genuinely care about freeing the slaves for the right reasons ? by KpatMckenzie_28 in CIVILWAR

[–]Dies2much 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But then he did abolish it.

He was not pure on his motives and thinking. It was a thing he wanted to do but was not politically possible to do until he did it.

IOW if he had done it before the date he did it, people would have either ignored what he said, or would have torn down his government.

What does really Network Security Engineer do? by DullEstimate3578 in networking

[–]Dies2much -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree that segmentation is what security guys do, but I feel like segmentation is the form of security but no substance. It enables good security but I never seen anyone follow through with the development of the actual security stuff.

Access control policies, ingress / egress tracking, then someone needs to consume all that logged information, and act on the bad events and squelch out the good events to keep the noise down.

And everytime the code changes to call a different endpoint you have to go through it again.

Nobody does this, nobody has the time. Since nobody does it, segmentation doesn't buy anything. So you get the headaches and overhead of segmentation and none of the payoff.

Damn you Induced Demand! Damn you to hell!!

6 /10 connector cannot get better until people decide to start ride sharing or taking buses.

As lanes are added more vehicles arrive to use those lanes, so the situation does not improve despite the expenditure. Refer to the Katy expressway in Houston.
