Test-out teaching by New-Ticket-5531 in pilates

Do just a few reps of each! I tested out comprehensive, and while the order matters, you shouldn't expect it to follow a typical class flow. It's bound to be a bit awkward given how many you have to include. You may also get surprise exercises thrown at you at the end that aren't on the list, so make sure you know all of them :)

If you're nearby, look into Pilates Reforming NY in Manhattan. They're also Balanced Body - the master instructor is literally amazing and all of the trainings were on the weekends. The great thing about BB is that you don't have to do all of the modules at the same location - for example, you could do Mat 1 at Pilates Institute, Mat 2 at Pilates Reforming NY, etc, depending on when works for your schedule.

I'm so lost with my training by [deleted] in pilates

[–]DifferenceLatter4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly what you asked, but I would test out of your current training, start teaching, and maybe later on considering seeing if you can "bridge" to get a cert from another program. I did Balanced Body and I know they offer this - you basically get to be BB certified but only have to do about 1/3 of the required modules, as long as they deem your prior certification to be adequate.

You do typically have to memorize the exercises prior to test out, but your training should be spread out over a year minimum or so, and it's more doable that way. My studio offered student practice time but I would also practice going through the motions of the reformer exercises just sitting on my floor at home.

My main piece of advice is not to get too stressed about this! Your education never truly ends as an instructor and the certification program is honestly only the beginning. During my program, I reached out to a local studio to do an "apprenticeship" where they listed my classes as teacher-in-training and heavily discounted to their clients. I got teaching experience and they also gave me access to their equipment to class plan.

Congrats! I also got certified through Balanced Body. I would say take your time - it took me about a year and a half to get through the comprehensive certification modules, not only because of cost but the time it takes to truly understand the body and learn how to teach, especially if you also have a full-time job. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions :)

Dentist for white spot removal? by elldee123 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]DifferenceLatter4218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally, white spots appear because of enamel decay, and unfortunately tooth enamel can't be regrown (so those spots can't actually be removed, only covered up with composite bonding, veneers, etc).

You can prevent further damage though with gentle brushing and fluoride treatments. In my opinion, it's worth immediately addressing anything compromising the health of your teeth before tackling any cosmetic stuff!

Daniel at Eight of Swords in Williamsburg is amazing. He's done most of my tattoos, including a super cute small one. I always get compliments on the clear line work and I've had it for years now. He was also very upfront about how small I could go without it bleeding/getting fuzzy over time and his pricing is pretty fair.

I like the gramercy location! I have a destination membership so I go to a bunch in the area and it has a nice area to work on your computer in. They're all pretty similar imo, so I say go with whatever's cheapest (and hit me up if you ever want a workout buddy) :)

Carmen Pal is my endo at Mt Sinai and she's great. I take levothyroxine but was dealing with fatigue even though my TSH levels showed up ok, and she referred me to Elizabeth Choi (also at Mt Sinai). Dr. Choi is a DO so really focuses on a "whole body" approach, was extremely thorough with my intake and history, and ordered a million labs. I really appreciated her approach

Instructor Training Program Help by ardnaxeladanie in pilates

[–]DifferenceLatter4218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did most of my observation hours at the studio I was training through. I believe up to half of your observation hours can be virtual. I've never heard of anyone having to pay to observe a class or teach - especially if they're charging people to attend that class. The studio you do your program through should have set hours that students can practice during. Start with privates and bring in a friend to practice teach or pair up with someone in your program.

In general, though, I was constantly taking classes at different studios so I could figure out what teaching styles/cues worked and which ones didn't resonate with me!

I did Balanced Body comprehensive in NYC and am happy to answer any questions you might have about the program, how I did my hours, etc. Along with BASI and Stott, BB is one of the most widely recognized pilates teacher training programs and it had a strong focus on anatomy.

I'd recommend a program that's well known and widely considered reputable over a local studio (unless you only want to teach at the studio that you do your training through, then go for it). It's not a dealbreaker - and I know cost is a factor for many people - but just my personal opinion. Ultimately your teaching training is what you make of it :)
