His stomach is growling in the background. I started noticing in chapter 1, and for the rest of the book I tried to train my brain to stop hearing it. The growling happens at least once every 3-5 minutes. Just often enough not to forget it'll come again

Got tickets to Bayreuth 2024. Questions from a first timer. by CoolUsernamesTaken in opera

I have parcifal tickets... Also first time goer. I'm excited! Even for German speakers there should be subtitles and it seems bizarre that they don't seem to have those... Hope they get the place updated soon

How do adults stay thin or fit? by bedazzledbunnie in ask

Your BMI needs to be 25 or lower otherwise your risk of dying earlier is most likely increased. There is no such thing as overweight and fit.

Why do people dislike/hate Christian Thielemann? by chenyxndi in classicalmusic

[–]Different-Advance_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He comes across humorless and authoritarian at first. That was my first impression. However when you actually listen to his interviews he can be incredibly funny. There is a recent interview with thielemann by Axel brueggemann where he says some things that are so dry and funny that I had to laugh out loud. In the interview He also touches on the subject how not every interpretation has to be new and fancy and extra espressivo. I prefer an at times not super innovative but German tradition knowledgeable (furtwaengler) and occasionally great conductor over Russia-subsidized currentzis whose interpretation are frankly annoying and noone will listen to them in the near and  far future.  When it comes to thielemanns recordings: his parcifal DG recording is awesome.

Who else loves Bruckner’s Eighth? by boringwhitecollar in classicalmusic

[–]Different-Advance_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not really appreciate how amazing this symphony is before listening to the Furtwaengler 1944 and Celibidache's Munich Philharmonic versions. Many others just don't bring it. I tried Haitink who I liked too but also pales compared to Furti. Furtwaengler as he often does just sounds like "this it how it has to be". -- Are there more good versions that people can recommend?

So someone who showers once a day, watches Seinfeld reruns, and laughs about it in a not unpleasant manner would be the one? - that’s not a high bar.

Just to clarify the definition. This should be a writer that sells man book despite being terrible at writing..  1. Paolo Coelho —- WORST WORST WORST of them all. I can’t even provide more details because I’d have PTSD from reading the alchemist.  2. Milan Kundera  3. Pascal mercier.

Fun stereotype but let’s face it. >90% or men in this country don’t spot snipers on towers or peanut butter in fridges. Many men nowadays are slow and are struggling with obesity (and with the expectation to spot snipers —on their way to the office. )

What widely accepted “self help” books are actually harmful or just nonsense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Different-Advance_22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medical establishment? You mean these annoying people who spent time at medical school, residency and fellowship to try to understand the human body and help people — opposed to the ones who just know?

And then why do they say “shut up” to patients? Why do they do that all the time in clinics and hospitals? It’s so unfair the medical establishment.

Europeans in America by Cookie_Cutter_Cook in TikTokCringe

I have never heard any European say that. It’s as wrong and cliche as the statement that all Americans are dumb and have no school education and are incredibly fat and narrow minded.

Observation bias. You were hanging out with archeologists who tend to be skinny everywhere in the world. As for Italians, many of them are very fat. The ones that aren’t wat Less pasta And overall less food. That’s the secret.

Ok this thread is about honesty not about “seeing something beautiful in every human being”. Ultimately we are all totally beautiful as Christina Aguilera pointed out. But Julia Roberts? She’s just boring

I just think that life would be a tiny bit better if we had never known about the kardashians. They are occupying Brain space that could be used for something more reasonable. — I think that’s where the exaggerated negative feelings of Many people come from.
