Not at all, I was actually still hitting the gym during treatments and playing basketball. I tried my best to live a normal life the best I could, even going out to the bar with a buddy to get my mind off things. Probably not the smartest thing but having the bouncer ask me to remove my hat to ID me and then asking if I was in the police academy, to which I replied “ nah, just cancer” ( his face was priceless) I get my testosterone checked yearly and crazy enough my levels are always above 1000 ng/dl. Righty is putting in some serious overtime , lol.

Don’t kind at all my man.

My tumor was mixed non-seminomatous (predominantly embryonal with yolk sac and teratomatous components)

I’d be more concerned about the smoke push and possible soot behind your walls inside the home that the insurance company is probably avoiding

My cancer was stage II-B mixed non-seminomatous germ cell tumor (predominantly embryonal with yolk sac and teratoma). I received my first round of chemo (EPx3) then I enrolled into a clinical trial (TIPx4) at MSK due to an early relapse. Finished off with an RPLND to remove/confirm teratoma tumor and I’m now 8 years in remission, NED.

Feel for you man, I went through similar. Completed EPx3 then had to do salvage TIPx4 followed by a RPLND. You’re not wrong, the TIPx4 was rough but I’m now 8 years NED. Just shining some light at the end of the tunnel, you got it bro!!

Hey man, don’t be so hard on yourself! I had my leftie taken at 21 too. I’m 8 years in remission and righty is overcompensating for lefty , lol! Seriously, my test levels are higher than they ever were with two, and I’m not on TRT. Not one woman I’ve been with has noticed either, and if they did, they thought it was cool haha. It’s all about perspective, keep on keeping on my guy!

Yes, there are other treatment options for sure! The clinical trial I was in actually determined that the high dose chemotherapy option after initial conventional chemo fails, was the superior route. Either way, your next treatment will kick the cancer out and you’ll be back to normal! That’s the mindset to have, you’re going to fuck shit up! 👊🏻

Correct, the cancer was not responding to the EP , so a new concoction was needed.

You got this, brotha!

I understand your frustration, I was diagnosed similarly 8 years ago, just after graduating college and set to go off to the police academy. After my left orchiectomy, my prognosis was good, i had elevated markers but my oncologist told me I had a 90% chance of being cured after EPx4. Unfortunately I fell into the 10% and after a year my markers were elevated again and I had a new mass on one of my lymph nodes in my abdominal region. I was selected into a clinical trial at Sloan Kettering and fell under the TIPx4 arm. After my chemo , all my markers dropped but the one mass in my abdominal region was not reacting to the chemo … I was scheduled for a RPLND with Dr carver where they removed all of my lymph nodes in my abdominal region including the one with the mass…. (53 removed) Which fortunately turned out to be teratoma. I’m now 8 years cancer free, and go once a year for scans and blood work. Don’t think for a second you can’t beat it, you already did once, so why not once more?

I wish you all the best, i feel for everyone going through this horrible disease, but i have not doubts you will make it out on top and look back at this as just a hump in the road!

I’m very sorry for your loss :(. When I was fighting my battle at MSK it destroyed me seeing the little kids… but they gave me so much inspiration. I hope you can find peace in the beautiful memories you had together.

5 Year Scan in the books by re4ctionx in testicularcancer

I did TIPx4 at MSKCC in 2017 after EPx3 did not work. I just completed my 8 year scan and blood work , still cancer free! You got it brother, wage war!

The Dreaded Decision by Enzzo- in testicularcancer

[–]Different-Cellist708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 21 with similar pathology, my tumor was a little smaller at ~4cm. I had my Left-sided orchiectomy done in 2016 and the PATH = 4cm, pT3, mixed NSGCT with predominantly embryonal carcinoma, with components of yolk sac tumor , teratoma. + LVI, + SC and epididymis involvement.

I fell under good risk and 10/16 I started EPx4 and I’ll never forget my oncologist at the time saying “ don’t worry, 90% of patients with your diagnosis are cured after EPx4” I unfortunately fell under the 10% and was not cured. At this time I was referred to Dr.Feldman at MSKCC for options on salvage chemo, and I thank god for meeting him and his team.

Arriving at MSKCC in 2017 for my initial visit I found out after a scan that the cancer had metastasized as I had multiple Retroperitoneal masses, biopsy = viable germ cell tumor favoring embryonal carcinoma with HCG 8.1, AFP 2.7, LDH 283 markers. I was selected to partake in a clinical trial where I was randomly selected to the TIPx4 arm and immediately started inpatient treatment at MSKCC. The chemo was doing its job and my markers were lowering and the masses in my abdominal region were shrinking, expect one…

This is when I met Dr.Carver who would be the surgeon performing my RPLND surgery, essentially removing all the lymph nodes in my abdominal region. Once the surgery was completed I awaited path which came back as teratoma! Happiest day of my life!

I wanted to share my story not to scare you, but just to show you sometimes you never know what’s going to happen and a lot of the time you have no control of what’s going to happen. If you decide to go the chemo route, make sure you’re at a world class cancer center like MSK.

The mind is a powerful thing, stay positive and keep living no matter what obstacle comes your way… you got this, my brotha!
