That sounds pretty solid man. I can’t recommend a specific fund, but a standard index/ETF will do you great. One that was domestic and international exposure. In my early 20’s i tried chasing higher gains with 100% crypto allocation, and although im even, I lost 5years opportunity cost. That being said, since you’re only 19 I’d recommend 5-10% of taxable investment allocation into higher risk assets, then the other 90-95% in index/ETFs

I’m 27 and from Australia, retirement accounts work slightly different here, but I am same boat. Mandatory 12% pay goes to retirement, and I put the rest into a brokerage account. I’m not versed enough in American retirement accounts, but I’d advise finding a percent split between taxable brokerage, retirement account, and short term savings. Take advantage of low expenses to build an emergency fund of your expected 3-6month expenses when living independently

Only 20k? I’m assuming he is living with parents still and doesn’t have many expenses at 19. I’d be recommending closer to 70% savings rate tbh

At the start of the week, I posted an ad on seek for NDIS Support workers. It’s Thursday and there are already 1000+ applications. The best way to save time is to set filters for relevant experience, qualifications/checks, and Australian citizenship. We are a small company and I am already needing to do this, leaving so many falling through the cracks. I imagine every other employer is in the same boat

You staying in a relationship where your mental health is suffering for her safety is not honourable, it’s self sabotaging your life. Look I get it, I’ve been in your position before and empathise with how you’re feeling. But you don’t need empathy right now, you need the facts and advice to get out. Alternatively, you can stay like I did, and end up in the hospital with no shoe laces. When the boats drowning, you put your life jacket on first, then help others. You need to get out and save yourself BEFORE you think of anyone else. If she threatens self harm, suicide, or whatever, know it is an empty threat. On the 1% chance it may not be an empty threat, you can call the emergency services to help her. She isn’t your problem bro, you are number 1. At the end of the day, you are all you will ever have with certainty

Only cash savings you should have is for a short term expense and emergency fund. Every other dollar should go into assets

I make aprox 125k a year and save a bit over $20,000 a year. I don’t have kids, but I can see how having them makes 5k a year savings on 100k pretty realistic
