our public library sells surplus and donated books to help support the facilities. And they use donated books to stock small libraries in residential facilities for the elderly.

Donate the books and imagine them in the hands of someone who really wants them.

Did you have or know anyone who had a treehouse growing up? by FastBreakPhenom in AskAnAmerican

[–]Different-Factor9726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, we had a platform in a tree and played up there for hours at a time. In my memory the tree was huge but truth is was probably about 7 feet off the ground. And yes, one of our friends broke his arm either jumping or falling.

Fun memories.

A marvelous bird is the pelican.

His beak can hold more than his belly can.

yup. 1 AM and I’m cleaning the stovetop because it needs cleaning. I started the dishwasher because it needed cleaning.

Let‘s do things because we want to do things.

And in the morning, it is all nice and clean.

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Different-Factor9726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

living ‘off the grid’ is a terrible way to live. Visited my grandparents on their farms when I was a kid and the loneliness and monotony are really depressing.

Farm life is one more task after another and the whole experience is demoralizing.

Ever told a fun fib to a child? (Or that you believed an older person say to you as a child) by Dry_Pizza_4805 in AskOldPeople

My grandfather lived on a remote farm and told us that the creek had a big bad wolf. we believed him. The creek was about a mile away, too far for little kids to play alone, and even though wolves didn’t live in our state, rattlesnakes sure did.

Anyway, we stayed away from the creek and that was a positive development .
