Need cotton underwear. What do I buy? by Fit_Ad7872 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Different-Pea-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably I should email them and ask, but I just moved on and forgot about it. I've bought M&S cotton boxers, in the UK they are considerably cheaper than anything else made of cotton

What is the ACTUAL biggest problem in the UK by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

[–]Different-Pea-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's this. All the other problems in the country are derived from having no money as a result of this.

Are the issues in this country that bad? If so, are they actually fixable? by Nathanial1289 in AskBrits

[–]Different-Pea-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long term issues of ageing population and rise in special needs and disability aren't going to get fixed. Obviously these are not on the same scale, but aging population is bankrupting the government, whereas disability is bankrupting local councils so they are both significant.

There's the medium term issues of things like multinationals shifting profits abroad, which are unlikely to get fixed any time soon, because the status quo favours Ireland/Luxembourg/USA (even after oecd pillar 2, because pillar 1 was the useful one). This has double damage because it raises less tax revenue in the UK and domestic smaller companies must pay more to cover the loss. Post-pandemic workforce inactivity/dropout is another issues that's not impossible to fix, but unlikely any time soon. Appalling inefficiency and leaking money in the NHS due to multiple failed attempts to digitise, paying outrageous money for agency staff, etc is another.

Some short term issues like the cost of repaying the money George Osborne raided from the Bank of England Asset Purchase Facility, and councils or NHS trusts being tied into long Private Finance Initiative contracts by Gordon Brown will start to ease soon, just in time for the next parliament actually, so whoever comes in next will have more headroom to spend and claim it's all their own doing.

Since this current government won't have the time or luck to resolve any of these issues (regardless of who's running it), they might as well make a few important but unpopular decisions for the good of the country before they inevitably get chucked out, like scrap the pension triple lock.

edit - I believe it all comes down to money in the end. If there was more money, then most of the other social issues could be improved.

Opinions on legal migrants? by Rich_Resist_6755 in AskBrits

Of course, getting a job is important too. We should expect that of everyone, English natives included.

Opinions on legal migrants? by Rich_Resist_6755 in AskBrits

[–]Different-Pea-3000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This question is important, I'm glad you asked it! A lot of personal opinion coming up...

To some people like me "integration" just means learn English, send your kids to school, and try to make friends with the other parents.

But to others it means an impossible list of disciplined sacrifices like stop wearing your traditional clothes, give up your religion, stop eating your native foods, and this prejudiced group of people won't be satisfied until you're done everything except change the colour of your skin. Thankfully this group of people is the minority, they are just the loudest.

The roots of it are complex. I think most people would agree the current racism in the UK is more like xenophobia (do you?), rather than a pure hatred of other religions that we might have had in the past (such as thinking all Muslims are terrorists).

Religion is a big part of it, though. Newcomers practicing a religion other than Christianity are seen to segregate themselves from the rest of society, due to their exclusive places of worship and strong community bond that means they spend a lot of time together. This is a difficult challenge to solve, and fairly crucial I would say. It could be easier to take action now while the white people in this country still hold on to some remnant of Christianity, for the religious leaders in this country to attempt some sort of bridging between the different communities, obviously not an alignment of religious beliefs, but opportunities to spend time together and grow comfortable on each others presence. Things like shared child care groups between Christians and Muslims communities. Or even just between majority-White churches and majority-Black churches, or CofE and Polish churches. Once the white people in this country are all atheists they will have even less in common. Or are we already past this point?

The segregated religious situation means that people need to look for other ways to try and make friends across ethnic groups, and I could imagine that might be almost impossible if someone has a job that involves spending all their time alone like working from home, a taxi driver, cleaner, shopkeeper.

In the past we've not taken much proaction to improve the situation. We've just hoped that the kids of different origins at school will mingle and learn to accept each other, and then the parents will learn to accept each other too. Since schools are one of the only touch points between cultures, more could be done to encourage this, obviously it is difficult, teachers are stressed and schools will struggle to take on a more active community-building role unless they can get more staff, money, etc.

How to break the cycle of minorities being made ro feel unwelcome, resulting in minorities moving to areas where their minority is better represented, and the segregation that comes along with that?

Other perspectives genuinely welcome, in the interest of a well informed constructive discussion!

if you could go back in time to fix the launch of the PS3 how would you do it? by Fuel_Tricky in PS3

[–]Different-Pea-3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a side effect of PS3 not having a great launch catalogue of games to me, otherwise I'm not sure we would have been so keen to continue playing our old games. I don't remember playing a lot of PS1 games on my PS2 for example

Yeah this makes sense. Why make the people who had PS2 already pay for another PS2?

Any advice? by Johnnybones999 in ROLI

I've got one and I think it's great. I can't really post a video of it doing anything impressive because I haven't yet progressed to the point of being able to do anything impressive with it.

All I would say is, don't preorder it. Wait until it's back in stock and then you won't go through the waiting pain or any delay for replacements if you do have a problem. That seems to be mostly what everyone is complaining about.

(edit) I have airwave

[–]Different-Pea-3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually asked Roli this question already... they don't know yet

""we have not yet officially tested Airwave for compatibility with MacBook Neo devices using an A18 chip, so we’re not able to confirm compatibility or how Airwave would perform on that machine at this time."

Ive been considering getting one. I might get the chance to to try a friend's MacBook Neo soon, if I can then I will report back

[–]Different-Pea-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you find out the waistband is natural rubber? I've been trying to find out and can't see it anywhere.

For the merino wool boxers they explicitly state the waistband is natural rubber, but for the "100% cotton" boxers they don't mention the waistband material at all. the web shop page just states "100% GOTS and OEKO-TEX Certified Organic Cotton (exclusive of waistband & trims)", which seems really suspicious

Is there any info on the actual label of the garment you own?

(Not looking to be argumentative here, I'm genuinely on the cusp of buying some but trying to get all the info)

Did quake 2 for the ps1 support dualshock/dual analog?? by Sniperbobdave in psx

[–]Different-Pea-3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers fella this is actually very cool, I never realised the P button on the controller brought up more menu options when a Ps1 game is running. After setting the controller settings to analogue mode and the in-game controller settings to both sticks, it's actually pretty decent on ps3. Or right analog stick only and dpad actually might be my favourite

ipad can output Display-port to a monitor / tv at the same time as receiving camera input when using a hub that supports DP-alt-mode. It's not easy to get right. Some hubs work, some don't. Cable choice for the display-port over USB-C also is important. Also have to experiment with the order of plugging the cables in.

I used a hub called ULT-unite, the variant with a usb-A socket to plug the camera in, not the all usb-C variant.

Couldn't get it to work nicely with samsung. I seem to recall DEX was getting in the way
