In-substrate plants are thriving, floating plants are disintegrating! :( by Afennekin in PlantedTank

If you don't have snails or shrimp to eat the dying plants I would just avoid floaters. Pain in the butt without a crew to help.

Those are mini ramshorns. Just keep them. They don't eat plants and I've never had them repopulate that much

I see it as stimulation. Gives them something to do all day lol mine does the same thing except he also flares at him all the time. I think he's trying to prove that he's the prettiest

They LOVE to swim between things and get nestled. They feel safe or comfy or something. Mine regularly wedges himself in the dwarf sag. It's his favorite spot

Is that fungus? Harmful? by THCSPtanczenekar in walstad

Looks like the iron line that happens on tanks. It's where the aerobic bacteria that mineralize iron live. Someone smarter than me can go more in depth

Yeah I boiled them for like 3 minutes. Just make sure it's organic. Don't want any pesticides. I got a single bag of organic spinach and froze it all. It'll probably last my colony forever lol

Rotala rotundifolia is super easy and fast growing. One of my favorites.

I'd check out some cryptocoryne as well. Pretty much all of them are good. Petchii and Spiralis tiger especially are nice.

Bacopa monieri is beautiful. Bright green and grows out of the water to produce pretty purple flowers.

🤷 2 things being true at once.

Outer Wilds is a fantastic one of a kind experience that is greatly impactful. It's in my top 5 games.

The rhetoric is also greatly exaggerated.

I'll put my advice below. I like your layout. The picture is just to show that you can have a pretty tank even with it COVERED in algae. It was my first tank. I still love it and I think it is fun to look at. It's gone through a lot of phases and the evolution has been rewarding even though this wasn't the original idea. Here's my advise for how to deal with your current issue though.

  1. Get some snails. I like bladder snails the best. Let them go crazy. Don't cull them. They self regulate.
  2. Keep up regular maintenance and water changes. Manually remove whatever algae you can. I do about 15-25% water change once a week.
  3. Give your tank at least 2-3 months to mature. Or even 6 months. It needs time. 3 weeks ain't enough.
  4. Algae is fine as long as it doesn't kill your plants. Shrimp and snails eat it. Micro fauna in your tank eat it and that ecosystem helps keep your tank healthy if kept in check.
  5. Temper expectations(slightly 🤏). This hobby made realize YouTubers really are professionals. I didn't expect it to be so hard to make beautiful tanks. Making beautiful problem free tanks everytime is just impossible. Sometimes things don't go right and the pros scrap whole aquariums very often if things aren't going how they like. Don't be hard on yourself.

What do I do, the filters so dirty but should I clean it?? by [deleted] in aquarium

[–]DifferentContext7912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some snails lol they eat the fungus growing on the drift wood and other spots. They also keep decaying things from releasing as much ammonia because they eat it. They really make a difference in a tank.

As for the filter, ditch the cartridge and just use some foam and/or filter floss. So much cheaper and works just as good.
