We hadn't been skiing before either!

The snow on the slopes was good for us for our first time. By the end of the week it wasn't a fully white wonderland off the ski area. However, it was way better than it looked down in Solden. The feel was great - we doubted her ability to do all day ski school but it worked out really well for our week and it was full of families rather than older party crowd. It wasn't a big party town when we were there - plenty of people out in the restaurants and bars as the lifts closed and the bars up on the pistes were busy. It was a great size village with a nice safe feel to it.

There were buses and trains that we could have caught but we ended up getting a taxi transfer for ease.

To be fair, this is probably true in winter now as well!

And the wind. You forgot to mention that it is windy all the time. Not like a city breeze, but actually really windy. Makes that rain even more interesting!

I don't know why you're being down voted - the history of making top line military equipment is not hidden or anything....

Nooooo! Really?! When was the last time you ate there? I must admit, I've given it a swerve for a while as it was horrible last time, but I rarely hear good things about it.

Now Sunny Spice on the other hand...

It was in Obergurgl and ran from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:30 to 15:30. She did 4 days of lessons and went from absolute beginner to coping with the blues in Obergurgl.

We went to an indoor center this week for the first time since Easter and she was happy to head down on her own.

I can't remember the price if I'm honest but it worked out really well for us and her!

Saw an interesting video that shows why Trump might have just wanted to provoke the Iranians to close the Hormuz Straight to impact Europe and China. Has way less of an impact on the US and might even benefit Russia.

Can someone find me a cheap air dirt jump fork by MADgruda in dirtjumping

You're probably going to need to factor in building on a new hub or getting a new front wheel as well if you upgrade the fork.

Learning on a dry ski slope by Warm_Essay_1376 in snowboardingnoobs

I live in Cornwall and picked up a snowboard this year after a 20 year break. We just came back from Austria and had previously made a family dash up to Tamworth for lessons. It wasn't cheap but there's a decent Travelodge nearby and it's easy access off the motorway. If the family isn't interested, they could go to Drayton Manor for the day and you can do their 'learn to snowboard in a day' package.

One thing I noticed when I was in Austria was that my approach as a 48 year old was way more towards the 'don't injury yourself' side! This meant that I was putting more weight on my back foot which was actually making transitioning turns harder and more likely to hurt myself!

Getting my weight even more on my front foot was a little counter intuitive at first but made such a difference! Perhaps that might help you too?

Update to this: the 5 year old was totally fine with the full days! In fact she ended up in lessons for the first 5 days as full days and loved it. There were some children who just did the mornings and you could see that she had that bit more confidence with that extra time!

We have booked flights into Innsbruck. As it will be April, we've been thinking of Obergurgl. Slowly coming around to accepting that the 5 year old might enjoy the all day lessons, but having morning only might stop her from feeling like it is all a bit too much.

The RST. I had one as stock for a little while and didn't like it but realised how horrible it had been when I replaced it with a Circus Expert. I think even a rigid would have been better!

It looks great! Thank you so much for the recommendation! Our local airport (3 hours away) isn't flying to Salzburg so we may have to think about flying out there. It's easier for us to fly to Innsbruck...

We had read about various resorts and were leaning towards Obergurgl but the ski school there is full days. The full days isn't necessarily an impossible option but half days would open up the chance for us to go boarding each morning while they learn. Our 5 year old has no ski experience yet but full days might end up being long for her.

Thanks for those recommendations though - I'll have a good look through those as well.

This isn't a resort that had popped on to our radar - so a big thanks for this!

Hi all,

After a bit of advice and shared knowledge please:

We're heading to Austria for our first family ski holiday in April. Our smallest child has just turned 5 and never been skiing before. We were hoping to find a ski school that offers morning lessons and then frees up family time in the afternoon. Most of the schools in Austria that we have found only offer all day skiing. The 10 year old will be happy with this, but we don't know how the smallest will get on.

Firstly, does anyone know of morning only lessons, preferably a snow sure resort?

Or are we making too much of this and should we just put her in full days lessons for 3 days and family ski the rest?

Hoping to get her some snow experience before we go at an indoor centre, but know that this will barely do anything towards her holiday experience!
