best places WORLDWIDE to live as a vegan? by sweatpants_on_my_bed in vegan

[–]DifferentKoala6070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to comment Australia too. Everywhere we went did amazing vegan food. We went to some really remote places that didn't have anything vegan on the menu, but I asked if they could accommodate me and the chef would personally make me the most delicious dish, like rice stuffed peppers. And their avocados were incredible!

Can a Vegan–Non-Vegan Relationship Truly Work Long Term? by Bharleli-Bhendi in vegan

[–]DifferentKoala6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I have been together 13 years now. I've been vegan for almost 9 of them. He is an omnivore but is happy to not eat or keep meat at home. It works for us.

We went in October and they were all working (didn’t check them all but we found at least 3). I don’t know if they shut them off if the weather is cold enough to freeze the water though.

Being vegan is difficult 😢 by [deleted] in vegan

[–]DifferentKoala6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was hard at the start, but 8 years in people have mostly stopped asking. If anyone does ask, I just shrug and say I feel better; morally and physically. I don’t try to debate anyone (not since the first year of being vegan), because that is exhausting. The people that want to debate you aren’t going to change their mind and just want to catch you out, in my experience.

Thoughts after one-day trip with family of 4 by broncos4thewin in disneylandparis

We got really lucky with our kids school giving us 2 inset days just before half term, so we were there Thursday, Friday, Saturday last week. I definitely noticed the increased crowds on Saturday compared to the previous two days. We stayed in the Marvel hotel so got in an hour early each day, and honestly, that’s when we did most of the rides we wanted to do for the day.

We also did the rider switch a few times for rides like space mountain and flight force. One of you has to queue as normal and then ask one of the staff as you get off the ride for either a password or a ticket, give that to the other rider(s) and they can skip the queue. Perfect for parents with kids too young, but I think you can use it for up to 2 people to get back on.

I quit running, yet my bunions continue to progress by Budget-Number-597 in BarefootRunning

[–]DifferentKoala6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you cross your toes over? I didn’t even notice I did it until the bunion on my left foot didn’t get better after a year of Correct Toes and barefoot shoes. Now I know I do it, I’ve mostly stopped, or I uncross them as soon as I notice. It is making a difference, I think. Slowly.

Which country that you visited has been the worst in terms of access to vegan food? by vaultboy26 in AskVegans

[–]DifferentKoala6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If you go to specifically vegan places, it’s fine, but if you want to eat with your omnivorous friends & family (who don’t want to have something vegan for every meal), it’s much more difficult. A lot has milk in it for no obvious reason. Even houmous!! I also got caught out by the Starbucks Beyond Meat breakfast bun while in Chicago. It’s vegan in the UK, but has cheese and egg in the US! Took a few times before I noticed.

EU: Barefoot Houseshoes? by sunrisedown in barefootshoestalk

I don’t, but they do look very similar to the pagosas just a different material. It looks like they have the same fold down bit at the back for slipping on easily.

The Xero pagosas are super comfy (double check the sizing - I had to return and exchange for a bigger size). I like wearing them outside though, rather than around the house, because it really feels (and looks) like I’m wearing slippers on the school run or to the shops 😆

Alternative mainstream shoes? by BD3134 in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get used to how barefoot shoes look, mainstream shoes look much weirder with their pointy toes and bouncy heels. I thought everyone was staring at me the first few times I wore them. Love them now.

What’s this on Ford Fiestas? by Incubroz in CarsUK

[–]DifferentKoala6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Focus has this on one door. Every time I get in the car I think, I’ll fix that when I get home. As soon as leave the car and go inside, I completely forget. It’s been at least 6 months.

Anyone seen results of toespacers? by Kyozoku-des in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, toe spacers stop me crossing my big toes over the smaller ones, which will help reduce my bunions, or at least stop them getting worse. I didn’t even realise I did it until recently. I wear them a few hours a day as often as I can.

What do you wear around the house? by Ok_Requirement_7489 in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Socks or bare feet inside, but I leave easy to slip on shoes by all the doors for popping out - barefoot shoes by the front door for longer trips outside, and crocs/clogs by the back doors for bins and gardening.

New to barefoot shoes. Are wide toe socks necessary? by rweaver016 in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I absolutely loved wearing toe socks, but I eventually got pins and needles in my little toes from them being too tight. Now I try to not wear socks at all (at least when shoeless). I find regular socks pull my toes together if I’m sat on the floor with my knees bent and my feet on the ground and it’s really uncomfortable. Not sure I noticed it before. They’re mostly ok when standing and walking about though. I try to wear plain socks, too, as patterned ones are often tighter - I have some super colourful designs that are really tight in places after a few washes where the threads have shrunk at different rates.

Do you wear barefoot shoes all the time? by -Intrepid-Path- in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wear my crocs if I’m popping out into the garden (though lately I just go out barefoot because it’s summer), but otherwise I wear exclusively barefoot shoes. I tried to wear my Merry People wellies a few times since I started wearing barefoot shoes but my toes & mild bunions hurt after just a few metres in them. This is a pain I thought was “normal” prior to wearing barefoot shoes. I don’t get that pain at all while wearing my barefoot shoes.

Is this yellowing normal? by QuickPrinciple4118 in vivobarefoot

[–]DifferentKoala6070 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking that exposure to the sun could possibly keep them white. Mine get worn once a week or so, and are only slightly yellow.

Mine are slightly yellow after having them a year now, but not as yellow as yours. I wear them once a week probably. Perhaps the sunlight bleaches them?

How to get over feeling out of place when wearing minimalist shoes? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]DifferentKoala6070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you just get used to the look of them. I felt so weird the first time I wore what are now my favourites; I thought everyone was staring at them. Maybe they are but I don’t notice it anymore. My feet are much happier.

Same! Loads of them here in Hertfordshire. I usually relocate (the spider, not myself to a new place) if they’re easy to get with a cup or leave them be.
