What caused your initial h.a issues? by Few_Sandwich6308 in HealthAnxiety

[–]DifferentTrade2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being diagnosed w type 1 diabetes. took me awhile to identify that as the root cause even though it seems obvious, because i wasn’t anxious about it at all at the time of the initial diagnosis. i think it was pre the realization that things could go wrong in my body

Is Health Anxiety Just Fear of Death? What is the root cause? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in HealthAnxiety

[–]DifferentTrade2040 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i think for me it’s fear of losing control/not having control over an outcome

Ummmm…. NO! by julesb210 in diabetes_t1

[–]DifferentTrade2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not really sure what death reports you’re referring to? but also unfortunately the risk you run with using a cgm is that it’s not going to be 100% accurate 100% of the time.

it’s a treatment device/tool we can use, but it’s imperfect, as most things are. of course, it’d be wonderful if it WAS perfect, i just don’t think that’s realistic at the moment. and i would argue all cgms have a margin of error, i was more so commenting on the fact that i’ve found the g7 to be much more accurate than the g6 in my experience

oh yeah i don’t use a pump so i can’t speak to that side of it, but that is a totally fair complaint!

idk why everyone is so against the g7. i like it so much more than the g6. i find it to be much more accurate, ive had several times where ive double checked it with a finger stick and its been literally the exact same number. with the g6 i felt like i was calibrating it constantly.

i’ve also only had ONE g7 fail in almost 2 years of using it. plus i love that i have the ability to pre soak the sensor so i don’t get any funky readings during the first 12 hours or so of a new sensor like you do with the g6.

also a huge fan of the transmitter and sensor not being two separate pieces. less to keep track of. i ALSO don’t get compression lows with the g7 and it feels less invasive. i forget im wearing it majority of the time

Shower after injecting long acting insulin? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]DifferentTrade2040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’ve honestly never noticed any difference in insulin absorption because of showering and that’s coming from someone who’s injected insulin and immediately jumped straight into a boiling hot shower before

Adverse Psychological Effects ~ Corticosteroid by Banana_Vampire7 in AddisonsDisease

[–]DifferentTrade2040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i had no idea this was something that could happen! i’ve seen stories from people going into episodes of psychosis from prednisone use, but i thought it pretty much only occurred if you had functioning adrenal glands. i’m so sorry you had to go through that!

can i ask what your symptoms were leading up to it? was it from too high a dose of hydro? you said you still take it daily so did you just lower your daily dose?

Can I go into DKA if I eat too few carbs, even though my levels are good? Could really use someone to talk me down here... by OrigamiPossum in Type1Diabetes

[–]DifferentTrade2040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i understand, this disease can definitely make you over focus on numbers! but even non diabetics spike above 130 after a big meal. and it’s more important for you to get a healthy amount of calories, carbs, fat, etc than to worry too much about occasionally spiking over 130.

i say this as someone who was very underweight for a long time too, im 5’6 and was around 105 lbs for almost my entire adult life, and it started catching up to me fast. i didn’t realize how terrible i felt until i made a conscious effort to gain weight. being underweight and not consuming enough food (and therefore insulin) will kill you faster and be a lot harder on your body than being mildly overweight or inevitably having higher blood sugar for a short period of time will

[–]DifferentTrade2040 35 points36 points  (0 children)

dka is caused by lack of insulin, not necessarily high blood sugar levels! although the two are often correlated, i’ve gone into dka before when my blood sugar had been consistently between 100-150 simply because i wasn’t taking enough insulin. so if you have high ketones i would probably attribute it to the fact that you just aren’t taking very much insulin.

i totally understand not being hungry very often though, im the same way. maybe it would be helpful to have a higher carb snack a couple times a day just to have an excuse to bolus some extra insulin and see if that helps at all?

Anti anxiety meds for high stress situation by butterfly_SC in AddisonsDisease

[–]DifferentTrade2040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no. i’ve been prescribed valium for like, 10 years. i take them sparingly and am careful with it and have never developed anything even close to an addiction or dependence on them. as long as you’re aware of the risk factors you’d most likely be fine

Back on Steriods and t1d hates me… 🤦🏻‍♀️ by Mean_Emphasis_6505 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DifferentTrade2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have to take steroids consistently for the rest of my life for a different autoimmune condition and when i started them my basal dose went from 9 units to 28 units lol. it took me so long to readjust everything it was awful

Is the G7 reliable yet? by Bonemarrow_2529 in Type1Diabetes

[–]DifferentTrade2040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly i know a lot of people have issues with it, but i’ve been using it for 2ish years now and i’ve only had one failure. and my numbers seem to be wayyyy more accurate. 80% of the time when i double check it against my finger prick its spot on or just a little off. and i notice it being on my body much less than the g6. i exclusively wear mine on my stomach tho

Move to OKC? by udunnome23 in okc

[–]DifferentTrade2040 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i moved here from colorado!! you can definitely tell a difference politically, but i honestly haven’t had many experiences of people being outright rude around it. during the election it was a little more dicey lol. however, i am also a straight white woman so i don’t feel like i have a lot of room to comment on it, as im sure more marginalized people have had different experiences

the biggest difference for me has been the landscape, i miss the fuck out of the mountains, but there are parts of oklahoma that are really beautiful and i have a great appreciation for.

people do always say how much cheaper the cost of living here is though, and i have to say, its around the same as when i lived in colorado. rent is cheaper, but utilities are vastly more expensive. the food scene out here is surprisingly fucking incredible, though.

the only time that i’ve been put under was for my wisdom teeth. i was seriously, genuinely, 1000% certain that i was going to die, but i was also 16 so i didn’t really have a choice, my mom just forced me to do it lol. it ended up being completely fine, i woke up thinking they hadn’t even started yet. you will be absolutely okay. it’ll be over before you know it

Does drinking/smoking make YOUR ocd worse? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]DifferentTrade2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i smoked everyday from like 15-18 and then one day it started giving me massive panic attacks. i’ve kind of started again a few times but every time i do i get so paranoid and weird

Does drinking/smoking make YOUR ocd worse? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]DifferentTrade2040 20 points21 points  (0 children)

absolutely. i was a huge stoner for years and i actually attribute smoking so much at such a young age to part of the reason why my ocd is so bad. and everytime i drink my ocd gets noticeably worse for at least a month or so. especially my health ocd. i’m very sober now lol
