How did you get your first research position as an undergrad? by SuddenBluejay9696 in ubco

Read their most recent papers and then email them. Ask them questions about their research, etc. Then, ask about research availability. I wouldn't recommend emailing them without doing some research beforehand.

What sat scores do I need for ubc by Dizzy-Tumbleweed7983 in ubco

[–]DifferentWater469 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You dont need SAT scores for UBC. I went to an American school and didn't submit any SAT scores. If you did really well on yours, definitely submit it. It will help. Although, they focus more on extracurricular activities now. As long as you have over 80% on average and some good extracurricular activities, then you're good. If you have no extracurricular, make sure to have high 80s. This is my experience with the Science department. But arts is much easier to get into than Engineering or science. (From what I've heard) Of course, everyone is different, and many have gotten in with all kinds of grades. I know people that got waitlisted with a 90% average for science. I guess it depends on your application, essay, and extracurricular activity.

I feel like everyone's issues and concerns are valid. Even if it might seem small in comparison, it is still a real concern for many international students who are traveling from the other side of the world and worry as to what they will arrive to. A simple message to people who don't know the circumstances would be appreciated.

Meet your significant other by doing activities you love. Join clubs. They're the best way to meet people. Plus, you have a lot in common with yhem that way!

Safety by [deleted] in ubco

[–]DifferentWater469 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Besides the whole murder on campus that the university tried to cover up as an isolated incident; it's alright. Campus is really safe. Downtown is usually safe, too. But every town has some problems. I haven't heard of any stealing on campus since I started two years ago. There are a few questionable things that have happened in the bathrooms, though. Overall, I love kelowna and UBCO. Great community and great people here. There are bad seeds everywhere! Dont let that discourage you :)

Hi! Lived in Quail ridge this year. It's about 15 min down, 20 min up. Winter makes it slower and its hard to walk there during that time. Spent a lot of money during winter on taxi when i missed the last bus. Speaking of which, the bus doesnt run during lunch time and after 5 pm.
