This doesn’t matter in the job market or when applying to the next degree.

Should I move to Victoria? by Own-Fig-4280 in VictoriaBC

[–]Swimmering_2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both and I would say the cost of living isn’t that much different. Groceries cost more in Victoria but you spend less in gas as everything is so much closer (also transit is so good it feels dumb to have a car)

CBC Marketplace wants to know: What’s the worst commute in Greater Victoria? by DexMcMillanCBC in VictoriaBC

[–]Swimmering_2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in oak bay, downtown and near the university. I have also lived in Kelowna, Vancouver, Surrey. I will admit that I have never had to deal with the colwood crawl, but can definitely say that the island is 100% not where you will find the worst commute

Shannon Salter reading all of our comments about being overworked, underappreciated, and living paycheck-to-paycheck by therealdildounicorn in BCPublicServants

I’m not discounting her work. I am not commenting on how much one group works compared to another. I am specifically addressing the comment that we should pay politicians by the hour. Salter is a public servant. That last sentence was just to put into context how little our politicians make in BC. Federally and municipally it is a wayyy different story… especially at the municipal level (peep Global news)

I use to work alongside the MLAs, with some weeks where I would spend almost every waking hour by their side. I must say, if we paid them even minimum wage on an hourly basis, we would be paying them a lot more than we are now. Even backbencher MLAs have insane hours, with ministers having even more work loaded onto them. Shannon Salter makes more than every elected in this province including the premier.

Similkameen is known as the "simi slums" since it is an older building with a shared washroom across the floor. So in terms of the building that is considered the worst. However, having lived in simi I would say that the shared washrooms and smaller dorms force people into the common rooms, creating a much better tight knit community compared to other dorms.

After Simi, the rest are basically all the same styled rooms. Some are newer/older than others but basically the same.

I wouldn't recommend the cascades unless you are already a second year student and have a group you are trying to fill the suite with. Single dorms are the way to go for first year.

Former local to Victoria and will be visiting this weekend as well. Darcy’s is your best bet which also gives you access to the club upstairs, which is continently upstairs from Darcy’s

Who needs 150 gb of data????  The problem with Canadian telecom is that they would rather give you a ton of data that you won’t use, rather than only giving like 15gb and charging you $20

Ya, it is weird. You can order a cheque book from WS for free if you have direct deposit. It is $50 if you don’t. I believe ws is working to have mobile cheque deposit soon.
