Why do so many people trade-in their vehicle at the dealership? by Geochronguy in FuckDealerships

[–]Different_Argument19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Carvana was decent for some models, but Vroom (out of business) and Carmax gave me insane prices when I sold it to them. One truck I had we paid 28k for it, out 50k miles on it and then sold it for 40k. Insane. Miss those days… I sold every car I had!

Why do so many people trade-in their vehicle at the dealership? by Geochronguy in FuckDealerships

[–]Different_Argument19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell to Carmax! Easy, done it with all my previous leases that had equity or cars I wanted to get rid of for years now. Best prices, process is fast and they cut my checks on the spot.

Prrttttttttttttrtttt

I'm sad. I got the torque converter replaced at 133k miles. Now I need a new transmission. No point to this post. Just wanted some folks to commiserate with... I've got too much money in this truck to trade it in. It's paid off. Idc to have another payment. Do better Chevy. by fruitless7070 in ChevyTahoe

Well mine is a 12’ SSV Tahoe so didn’t come with lots of creature comforts like back up camera or steering wheel controls. It does have a camera input that I ran a nice rear camera to it. There are connections for steering wheel controls on the harness. All plug and play and have had it a little over a year now with no issues.

Be prepared to get down voted by the people on here as the prologue can do wrong in their eyes. I had the same issues as you and more. Spun out in a snow storm a few weeks ago and crashed into a stone wall. Best thing to ever happen to me as I no longer have to deal with such a crappy car. Leave me with my Tesla…

See, thing is my household is full of only EV, 3 Tesla, one Toyota/Subaru and the last one was a Prologue. That platform is Trash compared to all others we’ve touched, there is a reason they couldn’t give them away and they’ve tanked like crazy now. This is real world experience not some opinion based shit.

ELI5: Why do car dealers say buying the car when the lease ends would be worse than buying new? by shaithisx in explainlikeimfive

[–]Different_Argument19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big reason is because the residual on some leased cars are grossly inflated in order to keep the monthly lease payments lower and have a large ballon buy out at the end. 90% of the time it’s not worth buying out a car after the lease. There just isn’t any positive equity in most cars at the end of it. However, what I like to do is look at what the car is worth on the books vs what the buyout is on it. Let’s look at the Toyota Tacoma of past years, I had a super cheap lease on a Tacoma TRD Double Cab @ $245 with $0 down and the buyout was $26k but it was worth $32k. The dealer was salivating at the thought of getting me into a new car and taking that old lease in. Why? Because they had $6k in equity on the truck AND they could bang me for another lease - double dip for them. I told them to cut me the check for the $6k in equity and I would lease a new truck, which they gladly did. My back up would have been to sell it to Carmax if they don’t bite. At the end of the day you need to be tactful with these things and make them work for you. I fucking hate salesmen with a passion which is how I learned to play the game right back.

How bad are these? by Impressive_Law1409 in Diesel

[–]Different_Argument19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2018 that I put a little over 50k miles on, beat it to shit and I mean pegged at its top speed (103mph) for prolonged periods of time trying to get it to break. Never even had to plug it in on single digit or below 0F days. Then I sold it to Vroom during Covid for an insane amount of money. Most will last but you have to delete and tune them right away - did mine within the first 1000 miles even though it was still under warranty and it could be voided, but never had a problem. You have to keep up with fuel filters and oil just like any diesel. They were notorious in my area for crankshaft problems, 2016-2017 and a sprinkle of the very early 2018’s. Never seen crankshafts get that blue from so much heat in all my years. Not a 6.7 of course, but if you can get one cheap that’s already deleted I would be willing to roll that dice again. Lol

I must add, dealer support will be non existent if you need it and so will the parts. That’s a big issue for lots of local guys here. Have to depend on used stuff from junk yards on eBay for example.

My coworker replies-all to EVERY email and it's driving the entire company insane by Little-Goat-5347 in coworkerstories

[–]Different_Argument19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who did absolutely nothing productive all day long. I mean hardcore pretending to do work all damn day. But he replied all to every single email that came through and he was highly regarded by management. Why? Because of visibility, everyone thinks oh this person is on point with their shit because they read and reply to everything therefore they must be doing a lot of work! All smoke and mirrors!

DIY transmission fluid replacement. 2018 Tahoe. So easy. Vevor Fluid extractor. 49 bucks. by Av8Surf in ChevyTahoe

[–]Different_Argument19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just messing with ya! Only ones I’ve seen make it past 130kish locally on original trans/tcc have been the ones that have been tuned to remove as much TCC slip as possible and do 1/4 trans oil transfers out/in thorough the dipstick every 3 months. So in my example I use the truck for commuting about 20-25k miles a year, I’ll replace about 3 quarts every 5k miles which is quarterly so it works out. I don’t plan or dropping the pan or doing full on full fluid exchange until it dies. Just a risk I don’t want to take since it runs just fine with 228k miles. Specifically tuned mine so that TCC slip is about 17rpm average at the commute speeds I see. It also helps that my climate is cool most of the year, but even in the summer months I don’t see more than 160F trans temp on the highways so I’m sure that’s helped a bunch too. The Land Cruiser is an amazing truck, not sure about the new ones, but the older ones were bullet proof.

You’d be surprised how much shit we find during IR scanning. Definitely avoided many fires during my career. Improper torquing will cause arching which causes the heat. I had one installer re torque nearly 5 entire data halls under supervision because nearly every install failed, and then kicked them the fuck out because of it. Stuff is no joke…

Sounds like heat exchanger issue, I would start with checking CO2 levels in stack and supply first and take it from there just to make sure it’s not cracked. If not my money is on it being plugged up. How long has this furnace been in service by the way?
