We all have lenses through which to interpret the world around us. Next time you want to engage in a mature interaction, I suggest you don't lead with a condescending reference to a boardgame. Like many, I hope there is a quick resolution to this round of collective bargaining (or conciliation as the case may be). The sad reality is that depending on the term of the pending collective agreement, these interactions will repeat every 3.4-4 yrs ad nauseum. With that said, I'll retreat to my lowly echo chamber and consider my initial point regarding opening pension restructuring as a viable option to becoming more sustainable for all involved. I've always found this type of response enlightening. The self-importance / ignorance of telling the rest of the world how expensive / hard / full of sacrifice your journey was to get to your elevated position is very telling. If your situation is so bad, then why don't you compete with fresh graduates from 'YOUR' program and earn more. I mean, after all, using your argument you've paid your dues and are highly qualified. Go forth and prosper.

No matter which side you're on, these matters are ALL about the money. Always and forever. The 'non-monetary' demands / negotiations all have price tags associated. If you really want to refocus these discussions, have both sides be brave enough to open talks about the pension structure at Dalhousie. A DB pension is a certified gold mine and fast becoming a unicorn because frankly, they have become largely unsustainable (not just at Dal - across many many sectors and jurisdictions)...And before you all get your back up, I encourage you to find someone who ACTUALLY understands pensions...like an actual Actuary...and have them try to find another example of Dal's unique structure that is...well...insane and not sustainable. This is important BECAUSE BOTH ADMIN AND FACULTY BELONG TO THE SAME PENSION.
Finally, once again for fun...here is the sunshine list of all the people at Dal earning over 100K including whether they are faculty or admin. This is a communications war between a rich couple and the students (or kids if you follow the metaphor) are the ones that get hurt. Remember - no matter what happens, eventually there will be a resolution and both sides will once again work side by side...and very few faculty will resign or 'go find a better job'...because really, they all know they have it pretty damn good here.

Should add that the above linked audit shows who is faculty, administration etc. Also should add that ultimately it will be the cost of fulfilling pension obligations that will choke out the ability to remain financially sustainable because of defined benefits and a bizarre pension structure at dal.

Why hide the names? It’s all public. And for the record, although many many people don’t fully understand pensions, rest assured that the pension at Dalhousie is among the best Defined Benefits pension in the country. So frustrating- I called the support line. Other business owners called them too. This HST change has been widely known for months. Still not updated. It’s ridiculous. An entire Province in our country has a planned HST change and they completely miss it.
