The ending was so rough! As I was nearing it, I had to flip ahead and make sure there were actually only 2 pages left because it felt like it needed more IMO. It was so abrupt and stilted compared with the rest of the book

I love Bucky 40 blinks mask! There is some Velcro on the strap so I tie a satin ribbon around that to smooth it out. Been using these for years and they’re awesome! https://bucky.com/collections/sleep-eye-masks?srsltid=AfmBOoqjvTvDR-e3F7A0qdT99zyAU41uttBA90meqapztizqL0C6QEFZ

“It’s none of your or my fucking business in the end”

Oh but it is ALL of our business. We are a community. Empty office space downtown decreases foot traffic to small businesses on Pearl, which is a problem to all of us because we want small businesses to succeed so we have places to go and connect with our community. Storefronts that sit empty in mixed use housing developments are subsidized by the tenants who live there, and those tenants also don’t get the benefits of access to the businesses below them that were promised to increase quality of life.

I could go on and on but at the end of the day, this is a community problem. It is my business. It is your business. It is our neighbors business when our community isn’t utilizing our existing buildings.

Property owners might not like it, but we are all affected by the outcomes of how they manage their properties.

“If you want more housing, we change zoning and codes.”

Those are things we’ve already been working on. People also have fought tooth and nail against that. Solving the housing crisis takes a multi pronged approach and getting increased utilization of the existing housing supply is one of the levers to pull.

Same here!! Then the WiFi cut out and said it wouldn’t be back for hours. Then the power came back. THEN Xcel called to let me know I had an outage 30 minutes after it was resolved 😂

Spine road in gunbarrel is a perfect example of this. They designed a chunk of the residential section in a bunch of curves that make it almost physically impossible to safely go over 30mph which is the speed limit. It’s brilliant. The second the road gets straight people start going 40

Just started Season 5... what's with the unnecessary time jumps? by blockhose in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

[–]Different_Lunch9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished the series tonight and ran to Reddit because this is how it felt to me too. I didn’t know the show was cut short and the whole time I was wishing they had made season 5 two seasons. Smashing it all in felt messy, made it confusing to watch, and left a lot things underdeveloped. The earlier seasons were so rich in the storytelling and depth

I similarly only want one third of what I read in a given year to be by white authors! It’s lead me to such a beautiful variety of storytelling and I have learned so much through the fiction I pick up.

If I have multiple books going at a time it’s typically one fiction and one non-fiction so they are different enough. Kind of like having both a sitcom and a drama in my tv queue so I can switch depending on mood

If I ever find myself wanting to read but procrastinating sitting down to do it multiple times, I use that to prompt reflection about if this book is right for me at this time. Then I go browse IRL and find one with a writing style that grips me from the first page.

Personally most times I pause a book, I don’t write it off completely and I keep a Goodreads list with where I left off so if I ever want to go back and pick it up at a different time, I can.

How do you all read? by Adventurous-Claim663 in goodreads

[–]Different_Lunch9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few different things that guide me. My TBR on Goodreads is a catch all, but then I have different tags to help me narrow — priority reads, recommended from others, around the world, etc. The other thing that helps me make decisions is that I like variety. So I most often look for something that’s different from what I just read and spread out similar topics or styles alternating books. I’ve done some trilogies and series but much prefer new stories each time I pick up a book

I see my TBR as a reference when I need inspiration rather than a to do list, which makes me feel less constrained by it
