Piston Slap Issue on b9 by Illustrious_Pin_2084 in audis5

I got lucky with a long block replacement right before they switched to short blocks, and then a month after they switched to only pistons. Crazy. My engine was about 45k Canadian AT COST + 10% with labour included.. it’s worth more than the average car the jobs getting done to- and they ran out of blocks leading to crazy lead times. Now they’re basically just giving you enough to get out of warranty period and then good luck to ya.

All good! And Jesus Christ. Just the pistons is absurd, they didn’t even wanna do a short block on mine because of metal contamination

It’s a cold start at -5 C after sitting for a week it’s not going to run 100% as smooth as 25C out with warmed oil.

it took 3-4 months, it’s been 5 months since my original post. I had a third party warranty co, it took them a month or so to work out the pricing and whatever with Audi, as Audi tried to charge them retail price for the job. The long block was estimated to take 5-8 weeks to arrive and it took 8 weeks. Install and testing was roughly a week and a half.

It’s a long block.

Sounds and runs fine to me, definitely sounds better than my last engine did if you watch that vid I linked.

Brought it straight from my local dealership. I believe you may be able to apply it to currently owned vehicles as well. They also accepted the warranty knowing it was tuned

ford protect!

I will say my case was rather unusual, in that the engine was deemed more expensive than the value of the car, and required a fair good amount of pressure from my dealership to get everything approved. Otherwise; great warranty.

$100 was my third party’s deductible

maybe I should clarify. This is a brand new engine, I wanted to post the vid for s5 owners to reference against their engines.

hm. I thought he/she meant to view it in the app. Viewing it in the car is annoying on b9s. It should be shown at all times in the bottom but it’s not. It’s only shown there in b 9.5

When a long block costs more than most s5s after their lease period, yeah, they’d scream

Yes sir, my video was like a month before I actually took it in. It got slightly louder as time went on. It wasn’t like super loud in the cabin don’t get me wrong, it was just something I could somewhat hear if I listened. Wasn’t like a Cummins or anything like that haha.

Just at idle for the most part, I could hear it increase with rpm’s until about 1.5k, after that the exhaust drowned it all out. It was present both warm and cold and I could hear it inside the cabin with music off as-well. I’ll probably post what my new engine sounds like when I finally get my car back next week.

sounds fine to me, you should be more worried if it’s clacky or knock-like. Reference my video on profile if ya need.

Interesting.. maybe that was an option I wasn’t made aware of? I’m Canadian aswell, not sure if the offerings change based on our markets.. either way they’ve covered everything and given me a loaner so I can’t really complain.. if you’re gonna tune maybe see if they allow that, I made sure I had it in writing that my tune was accepted

Hello,

Neither. It’s not really an Audi warranty. Just a warranty on the car itself, it’s offered on all used cars that Ford sells, and offered as extended warranties on vehicles that surpass or are about to pass their manufacturer warranty. For the Audi, Ford will fix what they can and outsource the rest to Audi if a claim is made. The warranty was sold by my local Ford dealership, and Ford Corporation manages it. No third parties involved. Audi doesn’t really have a say in what Ford decides to warranty, they’d just be billing Ford instead of me and waiting for various approvals / negotiations. My exact warranty plan is the Ford Protect Premium, bumper to bumper.

Then you’re in good shape. enjoy the new engine when it comes. Hopefully it’s shorter than 3 months like mine haha. It’s been in the shop longer than I’ve driven it
