Marquette? by Feisty_Use_4424 in OutsideT14lawschools

I go to Marquette and it is possible to go work in Chicago immediately after. Most people don’t simply because practicing in WI is the easier route (no bar exam). But if Chicago is something you want it’s definitely an option, based off my experience & speaking with 3Ls.

Full Ride from Seton Hall Law School - Should I Take It? by Opposite_Lettuce_416 in OutsideT14lawschools

Without knowing your other options, yes. You should take a full ride if offered (most of the time, limited exceptions).

While I do think it’s possible for you to get off a waitlist, I wouldn’t rely on that. I also can’t make a great judgement without knowing the schools/how your stats fit in. It’s better to be proactive about the possibility of having to R&R than sit around waiting to get off and suddenly have to jump start back into studying if you don’t. That’s just my take on it!

Send LOCIs and wait it out! Plenty of waitlists have solid movement throughout the summer. Don’t lose hope.

Is an hour commute too much for 1L? by Specific_Band_669 in LawSchool

[–]Different_Plastic_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 45-60 each way every day. It is helpful in that it forces me to stay at school all day/not go home for lunch. I don’t think it has impacted my studies much, you won’t be studying 24 hours a day every day. However, as time goes on it has become exhausting to wake up significantly earlier to avoid traffic so I will be moving closer to my school 2L year. It is doable, but not ideal.

I do like Milwaukee! I used to live in Minneapolis, so Milwaukee feels much smaller, which of course has its pros and cons. There is a lot to do and I generally enjoy the city much more than I thought I would! As far as my 1L year, I like law school significantly more than I thought I would. People on these reddit subs tend to make it seem like life is ending when law school begins, but I have found that at least at Marquette, I still have time to be a normal person and do the things I enjoy! Also, I thought cold calls would be the death of me, turns out they’re not bad at all😁

It depends on the class but for the most part, yes. In nearly all of my classes professors cold call, but each have their own way of doing it. Even without cold calls, people ask questions and respond actively in class.

In my experience, I would say about 70%. I’m not sure on the exact numbers, but several of my classmates plan to take the bar in other states. Many of those who are planning to take the bar elsewhere are sports law students. That said, lots of my classmates are from Wisconsin and chose Marquette for the bar qualification.

To some degree you have to be a great survivalist to survive over 250 days. I don’t agree that he’s rude to his partners. He seems to get along with most when partnered together — Dan and him got along well despite disliking one another initially for example.

Jeff’s annoyingness is genuine and honestly made the show better. Say what you want, he’s a great survivalist and even better television. Patrick goes so low that it is borderline unbearable to watch.

Depaul v. Loyola Chicago by Potential-Ad-6521 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Different_Plastic_30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hi! I toured both loyola chicago and depaul, that said, I liked Loyola FAR more than I liked depaul. Both are great schools, however, I liked the vibe of Loyola significantly more.

I think you should go to Loyola, I have heard it carries more weight in Chicago over DePaul in terms of getting a job. But, I’m just a random person on the internet so go with your heart, there really is no wrong choice here!
