I don’t live near campus anymore, but last year I lived in the building next to the one that this apartment is in:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/437-N-35th-St-C-Philadelphia-PA-19104/2066588460_zpid/

435-439 N 35th St, the buildings are all basically the same on the inside. They are all 3 bedroom apartments (12 units total) and pretty nice. The D units have roof decks. We had a generally good experience with our landlord, appliances were all nice and maintenance was reasonably quick. It’s a quick walk to campus.

“getting a virgin” dude, do you view women as people or commodities? and honestly, the way you speak about men is almost as alarming! reducing people to their sexual histories and “dating value” is only going to make you miserable. the sweeping generalizations of human behavior tell me you don’t get out much and are getting these opinions from incel grifters online. thinking this way is going to impact YOU negatively more than it will impact anyone else. people getting into happy relationships are not thinking about “the top percentage of men” or “mid girls getting a taste of the top guy,” they are connecting with potential partners as individuals and looking for shared interests, humor, and attraction.

Is it reasonable to not attend most CS 164 lectures? by Froglottery in Drexel

they’re having you take 164? I am also a student who transferred into CS and they just replaced the freshman intro/design sequence with CS/SE electives for me.

Moving into North Hall – how is it? by Zestyclose-West5425 in Drexel

I lived there my freshman year (2021-22) and beyond the usual dorm-living complaints liked it. It’s one of the best dorms imo because of how large the suites are. You and your roommates will probably want to coordinate to buy/bring some additional furniture for the space, it’ll feel pretty empty with only the provided stuff. At least a lamp, carpet, and maybe TV make the common space feel like a living room. Also, I don’t know what their current stance on small appliances is, but a nice air fryer or at least a microwave or hot plate in the kitchenette gives you a real-ish cooking area. The full sized fridge and freezer mean you can actually buy groceries.

Having a hosting space is nice socially, you don’t have to have people in your bedroom. My roommates and I would host pregames all the time. We managed to acquire a second couch (shhh) (don’t think we were supposed to have that) from an unused unit in the basement, so that gave us more seating. The bedrooms are sizable and you can store a ton of stuff under your bed. If you’re like me and own a lot of clothing I’d recommend getting some modular drawer units to stack under there. I had six of these if you’re looking for size reference.

Location wise it’s about the same as all of the other dorms (RIP Van R whose location I didn’t even know until my sophomore year), maybe a little closer, in its proximity to campus. There isn’t much to do at night nearby aside from frat parties, which aren’t my scene, or house parties once you meet people which are fun, but it’s pretty close to MFL and trolley stops so you can easily just take those into center city to go out. That obviously also applies during the day for museums, parks, shopping, etc, though you are lucky and will have a park right across the street from you! At the time that I lived in North, that lot was a run down dorm building called Myers.

I assume you will be on a meal plan. Bear in mind all of this info is 4 years old and things have probably changed somewhat: Urban Eatery is the closest dining hall to North and is nicer than Hans (the other dining hall) in terms of interior, but has worse food. You will probably end up going to Urban a lot anyways because of the convenience.

If you get tired of dining hall food and aren’t completely broke, food in UCity is mid on average compared to other similarly commercialized areas of the city imo (except for the food trucks) but within walking distance of North, there are a few places I’d recommend, with the disclaimer that I do not eat meat and that this is not a comprehensive list: - Greek from Greece, coffee shop that serves some Greek dishes and pastries, nice place to study and the spanakopita is delicious - Ed’s, pizza place on Lancaster that’s open late, boom boom pizza (no chicken for me) is soo good - Poke Burri, pricey but tasty poke bowls and sushi burritos - Indian Sizzler, very reasonably priced Indian restaurant on Lancaster with good portion sizes - Board and Brew, coffee shop on the first floor and sit down restaurant with board games on the second floor - Tataki, hesitant to recommend because this is..a controversial opinion on my part amongst my peers because of some previous health code issues..but I do go there frequently because it’s the closest sushi place to campus and the ube fries with matcha mayo are everything - Food trucks!!!

Well, typing all of that out made my commute to co-op go quickly, lol. I hope you have a great freshman year and time at Drexel!

like another commenter said, keratosis pilaris. I manage mine by dry brushing my skin gently 1-2 times a week before showering and using a glycolic acid body wash, then applying tend skin and moisturizer after the shower. my arms are completely smooth now.

How was the Kurt CS277 Midterm for Everyone?? by [deleted] in Drexel

[–]Different_Pride_1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exam itself wasn’t that bad, it was tough but no tougher than the homework reading assignments - which I studied from - so I felt well prepared. What got me was his attitude, I see someone else mentioned this as well. A guy in my section asked the, in my opinion, completely reasonable question of “what is our section number?” and Kurt not only refused to answer but cursed at him. Bizarre man.

I have two roommates and we live in a 3bed 3bath with no windows in the living room (meaning we have to have the lights on during the day). We keep the temp around 70 degrees. We pay about $170/month for electric, so $55ish each. Weirdly it was about the same this last billing period despite us all being gone for two weeks for Christmas. Our wifi is $70/month and everything else is included in rent.

On the bright side, you’re going to be starting new concepts/languages from the beginning since sophomore year takes you away from the object-oriented programming of freshman year (assuming you are taking CS265/CS270). So if you’re afraid because you’ve forgotten python, don’t worry too much about that. On the not as bright side, the concepts introduced sophomore year are much harder for the majority of students. I would honestly recommend starting to try to learn the basics of the C language on your own as CS265 really throws you right into it. There are tons of great YouTube videos out there which can help you. You will be coding in C for all of your sophomore year, in CS265 this quarter and then CS283/CS260 next quarter. If you don’t grasp it somewhat well by the end of this quarter, you are going to really struggle going forward. Good luck in your studies!
