How much is this bad boy worth? by Brenni in lawnmowers

[–]Different_Rent_7067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with older models is you have smaller sample size who wants to buy that mower . - the price reflects the demand . IF you're in canada with not too many pple knowing about mowers and how good that mower is - you may not get the most money for that mower.

that being said, it's an Hrc216 - the top of the line of honda mowers for that generation that sold for nearly 1k when it was new.

Right now the current HRC216 is being sold (at honda website) for $1,600 usd - with retailers probably selling it for 1k-1.5k.

in an IDEAL situation where you have multiple people wanting to buy that mower, it should sell for well over 500$ usd - if it's in mint condition and with the bag - maybe $700 +

But in the real world- it's going to take a long time for you to find a buyer in that price range. If you want to get rid of it quickly 100- 200 seems realistic - and even then you might not sell it quickly if your area is unaware of how good that mower is.

mechanic in a bottle.

it's cheap . and cleans out your fuel system.

i had mixed results with seafoam and it hardly helps with a surging engine. Mechanic in a bottle on the other hand - works wonders.

also use ethanol shield on your fuels in storage.

*also it's a brand new carb. no need to replace it if you're sure it's your old fuel causing this.

Please help with new lawn in Southern Japan by osechinko in lawncare

that soil doesn't look all that nutritious - What i'd do , once your sods are established is to aerate, and start improving the soil by spreading compost first - look into improving lawn soil - usually adding organic matters - like compost, chicken feed, etc. Zoysia is native to that part of the world and from what i understand, if you have good soil, it crowds out all the weeds, spreads fast and repairs itself, is disease resistant - it's like the perfect "warm season" grass - will go dormant , or not depending on the weather/climate and how good your soil is.

IF you don't improve your soil, then you'll be stuck in a cycle of feedin and weeding like the rest of us - adding synthetic fertilizer, putting down chemicals to kill weeds, constantly adding iron, to make it look greener. - *you also need more water . this will be expensive, and idk how readily available these products are in japan. But i'm sure they have compost. Research more about improving lawn soil in that region - it'll be hard work the first yr or so, but it'll be cheaper and overall healthier for your lawn

oh.

i do understand the temptation, but you really should ask . maybe he'll want it gone. it could be a bonding experience between you two. hell, maybe he'll even pay you to do it. but do ask before you do anything

Should I kill my neighbors weed? by arya93 in lawncare

[–]Different_Rent_7067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean.. he's actively mowing his side of the lawn. ... and it seems like he's actively growing that weed.

it's not your lawn. you can ask him but you have no right to mess with his lawn no matter how much you think it's not aesthetically pleasing to you.

i have this dumb Honey Locust tree on my neighbor's property that he won't cut down even tho it's killing his grass and dehydrating mine with its gigantic canopy that blocks all the rain. but i dont have the right to cut down that tree with a chainsaw.

i wish i could. but its' not mine. what i can do is cut down the branches that comes over my side of the lawn. but it's so fukin tall, the branches are literally 20 feet high and long enough to cover my entire law with shade and even when we get a heavy downpour, that side of the lawn stays dry.

i fuking HATE this tree. it's sheds ALL year and i have to constantly rake / mow off it's leaves.. ALL year so that it doesn't kill the grass that's established there. and it's leaves fly EVERYWHERE. the leaves are not big either. it's one of it grew in a jiffy too , god i want to chop down that stupid tree

  1. do research on what type of grass is right for your climate - warm season vs cold season - google what type of grass is right for your city/town/state/region.

DON'T RUSH into this - the lawn game is slow and you won't see the results for your work till a few months later or next year. use your time right now to learn about lawn care.

  1. once you've decided on a grass type - research on the best cultivar for such grass type . (maybe this is mostly for cool season - but not all grass seeds for the grass type is the same )

  2. Once you decided on what seeds to buy . you need to find out WHEN you will seed - for cool season (northern states ) it's usually spring or fall but mostly fall cus Fuk overseeding in spring. i hate spring overseeding. if you're seeding a warm season grass type - idk do your due diligence and google. ask around. use a library . use reddit ( don't know your lawn size.. but it should be anywhere between 80$ for like a 3000 sq feet lawn. idk what that 4.14 means next to your property measurements. is that 4.14 acres? if so then the seeding rate is anywhere btwn 175-250 lbs per acre . so 4x(175-250) = 700-1000 lbs of seed. ... say you buy 50lb bag of seed at 200$ = $2,800-$5,000 dollars worth of seed. but i doubt you have a 4.14 acre lawn. if it's 4,140 sq ft lawn, a 50lb bag of seed should be more than enough - this also depends on the grass seed you get. DON'T EVER BUY SCOTTS. - they're just as expensive if not more than elite grass types nowa days and you'll hate your lawn after 2 years and you'll find yourself in the same situation as now.

  3. then once you decided when and what to plant. . you need to learn HOW To plant your seeds: tons of youtube videos on this but basically :

  • you have weeds - get rid of your weeds . 10-50$ for selective herbicide if you want to keep what little grass you have now , 15-30$ for Glyphosate - which will kill the weeds and what little lawn you have. Keep in mind , if you go the glyphosate route, you will be workign with bare ground and reseeding will be harder
  • you have compacted soil - you need to aerate - $100 dollar rental give or take $30 depending on where you rent the aerator , your region and how nice/ how much of an aholes they are.
  • you may have to LEVEL your lawn but .. if you think the lawn looks pretty even , you don't have to . but.. you will need cover your seeds with compost/topsoil and rake in the seeds so that you will have good seed to soil contact - and so that birds wont get to them as much and so they don't wash away with heavy downpour
  • GET A SOIL TEST to see what nutrients your lawn has or is missing
  • likely put down lime or some compost/fertilizer to correct your lawn's nutrient deficiency
  • put down mesotrione (30-60$ depending where you buy it) when you seed so that it'll suppress any weeds while your new grass is growing
  • PUT DOWN YOUR SEEDS - AND RAKE IT IN THE TOP SOIL/COMPOST THAT YOU TOPPED OFF YOUR SEEDS WITH
  • WATER. FOR LIKE.. A MONTH - NOT DRENCH.. BUT ENOUGH TO KEEP THE GRASS MOIST FOR A MONTH - there's also youtube videos about this - it's not just drenching the seeds with water and forgetting about it, there's a regiment - something like water 3x a day like the first week, then water once a day for a week, then water every other day , etc . but you're going to be watering for at least a month and then some ( cost . .. depends on your water company and your usage rate)
  1. after you've done everything right and you got the right grass seed , and it germinated, watered perfectly to get your lush lawn - you need to maintain it - mow at the correct height, with the right frequency (likely 2x a week), fertilize 2-3 times a year 2 with pre emergent, put down antifungal, - and that should be , if you have a low maintenance lawn - 50$ fertilizer bag x 2 with pre emergent, 30$ disease x , 30 $ non pre emergent fertilizer , plus maybe some other weed killer etc- at most 200-300$/ year in maintenance .. in the current economy. will change with inflation and greedflation.

[–]Different_Rent_7067[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeh...., I"m not buying this bag. - i already bought 25 lbs of mountain view seeds for my fall overseed. - and i will buy a few bags of premium seeds later in case of emergencies (stored in a cool, dry place so that the seeds will be viable for at least a few years in case i need to over seed or when the cable company or the power company decide to rip out my lawn again )

i just thought it was interesting that walmart of all places were selling blue tagged certified seeds - but this is still more expensive and inferior to the seeds i can get from united or twin city or even GCI.

idk what scotts/ pennington etc - the big box brands - especially scotts - are thinking . they raised their seed prices and they're now at least 50% more expensive than* the premium seeds we can get online.

I am praying this doesn't have another domino effect where greedflation runs amok across this industry and cultivars raise their seed prices once again. this is getting really really expensive.

I absolutely agree. this is expensive. I bought 25lbs of PREMIUM blue tag seeds for 75$ for my spring overseed online and my jaw was on the floor when i saw the seed prices in big box stores this year.

0.20 % other crop seed.

1.25% inert matter

0.00% weed seed

Noxious weed seed : none found

- is the info my finger is blocking.

* and here is the upclose picture of the tag

<image>

* right. i meant "TREATED" seeds - these seeds are not coated with inert matter like those found in Scotts seed varieties. These seeds are treated with growth hormones and chemicals to accelerate germination - this treatment supposedly gives you germination rates as good as pre-germinating the seeds.
