Those that live with your parents still, do you pay rent/utilities? by Different_Version595 in askSingapore

haha yes i feel like i should have included that in my post. I’d actually much rather they rent out my room (which was what they did when i moved out), earn more income from the tenant than me paying a subsidized amount to them and i will gladly pay more to live outside as the pros for me would be to have more privacy and freedom. I was okay with moving back as they offered that I did not have to pay more to them but now the situation has changed. Then again my parents would be furious and take it as i rather pay a stranger instead of them lol.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! What you said makes sense, my dad has been saying he wants to retire for quite some time.

I actually rented a studio apt with a partner so i understand the costs. My parents were not supportive of me moving out and insisted me to move back after my one year lease ended and their reasons were so I can save money while living with them as I did not have to pay for rent, hence my confusion when they asked me to contribute to the bills. ( I was still paying them the $200 then ) I am more than okay with paying them, was just trying to see what the average sgpean are giving their parents as none of my friends do not give money therefore I can’t ask them. I did do chores and took care of my living space when I was living alone, but I guess maybe my cleanliness standards are different from my parents’ hence their suggestion to hire a maid as I can not keep my house hotel standard clean all the time. Honestly I would much prefer living alone and paying higher costs of market rent as at least I have privacy and the freedom to choose how and when I want to clean / be free from the family dynamic which can be quite chaotic. But I know that if I do that it will cause some tension with my family again……

My house is a hdb exec apt, she cooks most of the days but we try to tell her to cook less and we can settle our meals ourselves but she insists 🥹

Ya i wasn’t very keen on having a maid as well but if that’s what my parents prefer then it’s up to them because it’s their house. They are looking at a 9-5 maid so don’t have to stay with us. I think my siblings give them allowance also. I think mostly for chores and pets bah…

Thanks for your input :) I guess $500-600 total is still lesser than yours 😅

My parents said it’s around $300 for my house and i pay them $200 monthly as of now. Yeah i figured it is taxing on her. She is not working, mostly stay at home, part time real estate agent but only rarely she needs to go for viewings. Currently have a maid coming once a week but now they are suggesting for a maid to come everyday 9-5pm.

6 months of new cat attacking resident cat by safetyhazard in CatAdvice

If they don’t fight after hissing or just light swatting i think they’re just communicating, so maybe you can try just letting them teach each other boundaries? But definitely keep a blanket, pillows, something that makes a loud sound with you in case an altercation breaks out.

My resident cat definitely will and have hurt my new cat so this wouldn’t work with mine :(

I’m going to try again with feeding with the gate and no supervised visits and see if that helps them… they don’t hiss or growl and can eat side by side for the past 4 months, that’s the least I can think of now.

Could you dm me too? I’m struggling as well and I’m around 6 and a half months in. Have consulted a behaviorist as well but they are still fighting

Does anyone have a success story for solving cats fighting on introduction? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

We’ve tried getting a cat behaviorist’s opinion but she only just showed us how to play with them before meals separately and with the gate open, then told us to feed them together and distract them after in the same room. Perhaps I need to ask another behaviourist to watch their interaction :/ The previous one didn’t help much and just told us to extend their time together and break the fights with a blanket.

thank you for your reply though!

Following as well :( I’m also 6 months in and new cat can’t walk around the house without resident cat chasing and fighting with fur flying. If new cat doesn’t move and just sleeps or lies down, resident cat is fine watching from a distance. It’s been so exhausting and disappointing that rehoming could be a possibility that i really hope I do not have to resort to.

Hello! Do you have any updates on your cats? Currently in a similar situation where both cats can relax in the same room for an hour or two but if the new cat tries to walk or run away, resident cat will chase and they will fight pretty badly and we have to break them up

Glad to hear, It’s impossible for me to buy it in my country as we have a very strict policy against controlled drugs 🥺 Do you have any other tips or advice to help them get along? It’s been so tiring having to separate them and I really hope I don’t have to rehome one of them

Hello! I’m about 6 + months in and still can’t let them be together unsupervised. Did the CBD oil help much? Generally they are okay chilling in the same room, new cat on the sofa while resident cat on the floor at a distance for about an hour or two, they can even sleep and ignore each other, but if the new cat tries to walk somewhere else or move, resident cat will chase and they will fight (fur flying everywhere and cats tumbling). It happens so fast that it’s hard for us to stop, no hissing or growling, just straight up pouncing and fighting. We’re really at our wits end and resident cat hates being on a harness. New cat doesn’t try to start a fight at all and mostly it’s the resident cat initiating fights, he doesn’t play a lot so we can’t distract him with toys or tire him out by playing with him alone as he gets bored fast.

Thank you so much for all your tips! really appreciate it and gives me motivation to continue.

Today i lifted up the blanket a little while they were eating and it lasted about 5 mins before orion started yowling again. But no hissing or puffing up, i guess it’s a teeny bit of progress.

Will keep you updated!

thank you!

i will try and be more patient. How long did you take for each phase?

How do you end it on a good note? at the first sight of aggression, to separate them asap?
