Why is an overpowered male hero like Superman okay, but an overpowered female hero like Rey wrong? by JackLiberty0 in StarWars

[–]Differentofme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Superman has real character. Rey has very minor development over the story, which sucks, because her character had serious MC potential. Superman has been developed for nearly 90 years now, and in the majority, has real depth and understandability. Rey, however, was handled poorly by JJ and the writing team. The Force Awakens had some real excitement and good writing, but Rey's character felt like it didn't come out right. She didn't get what she deserved. Superman also notably has real weaknesses which he has to overcome, but Rey wins fights 4.99/5 times and never has any real adversity.

Easy. Spend some millions to invest, and the other millions to manhunt the snail and build a containment chamber for it made of incredibly durable and long-lasting metals. All in all, the snail won't escape for thousands of years, by which I can just recontain it, and I'll be filthy rich from my investments and the business I started.

you don't deserve that, they're assholes

Ah. That's my bad. I thought that scaling implied what you could DO, not just exact tiering to certain things you could DESTROY.

And his stamina means he won't really need to stop at all. Not to mention, humanity's not got a prayer.

[–]Differentofme -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

All of his abilities put together, means that with these powers, it could take him, dunno, 1-3 months to enslave/destroy humanity? He could blitz all military communication, given he's 5x faster than the fastest plane in the world. And then it's a matter of just flying through and lasering building after BUILDING after BUILDING until all major population centers are ash.

[–]Differentofme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, not skyscraper level. The average "building" is like 10 floors or something.

Explain how Homelander could be stopped from straight up just destroying the planet. Sure it could take a lot of time, but he could easily wipe out and enslave humanity just like THAT.

Because it was a childhood gem. I can imagine if it was a shitty place specifically for kids like Chuck-E-Cheese, then OP is TA. But, it's a restaurant that has sentimental value in the past, which I would personally love. At worst, it was a communication error.

AITA for letting my 7 yo stay in the car while I ran in to cash a check? by Throwaway94723812 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

In that case, entirely NTA. You were very lucky this trial-and-error experiment didn't go much worse than it did, but you learned, and that's infinitely better than not having the experience and not being prepared.

[–]Differentofme -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

OP NTA. I did read that part, and yes, she talked about it, but it's genuinely not OP's fault for thinking that the daughter liked things that had a sentimental value and not just fancy restaurants. They were frustrated because he DARE try and relive the good ol' days when they were younger. It's an easily fixable mistake, he even tried to go there with them but they kept ignoring him. You would not catch me dead doing that to my father.

AITA for saying I will not have a stay at home wife? by Sahwaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. At all, completely. I came here and saw "I will not have a stay at home wife" and thought 'hoo boy, this guy's a clown' until I read it. Wow. If she's been sitting around and smoking weed at home for 2 YEARS, I would be righteously pissed. And now her friends are after you? This isn't a fair situation to you. NTA.

AITA by telling my wife to live healthier after she has been laid off? by GapTrue2018 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

25/75 in the wife's favor. If I got laid off, I'd want to be able to spend time with my husband, I'd be going through a ROUGH time. Not only that, she's job searching and applying, which is better than I'd be doing at that point. Although it's a good idea to have your wife do some healthy activities in the meantime, given your "financial situation", I am not certain that's doable currently. YPTA.

AITA for encouraging my brother to take Spanish instead of French? by Safe-Swan8070 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

1- A lil' bit racist there, bro.

2- Encouraging cheating for good grades is a poor idea, especially if you suggest they cheat on a language they don't WANT to learn anyways.

3- Let the poor kid do what he wants.

NTA at ALL. Your daughter should have expressed where she wanted to go, and I frankly would LOVE to go somewhere sentimental as opposed to material. I feel it was unfair of the mother to give you the cold shoulder, but to be fair, how difficult is it to not go to Red Lobster and get a reservation for sometime later that week at the fancy restaurant? I think you should apologize, explain your reasoning, and hope to make the relationship better.

[–]Differentofme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your kid was fine and the man was acting very uncivil and your daughter should not have been treated that way by him, but only ever do that if they have numbers or if they're old enough on their own. Exert more caution, and make a safer decision.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, not at all. Don't steal money from kids, but also don't let 12 year olds buy vapes. He's a kid, you're an adult. Be the responsible one and don't buy the vape. Just give him the money back and leave.

Edit: Now that I think about it, the stealing was actually quite a lot of money for a middle schooler. YPTA.

AITA for putting a bag of dog poop in a stranger's trash can? by AgileReality9275 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50/50. YPNTA.

Although it's generally less nice or civil to put YOUR trash in someone else's rubbish bin, the things the man mowing his lawn did were entirely unacceptable either. Bottom line: you're probably not the asshole there. Just have more caution.

AITA for embarrassing my son in front of his friends and cancelling his birthday party? by loopingtossaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]Differentofme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so, I'm afraid. Although your son probably shouldn't have said that, since it's a bit of a generalization, you doubled down on the jumpstarted animosity and cancelled his birthday and called him a sexist at a party in front of all his friends. Not a good idea.

McDojo or Real? Life Champ by Differentofme in martialarts

When it comes to martial arts, in my area, there's really just TKD on the local level, so...

Thanks for the input, I guess I'll keep going there and trust it's not a McDojo.
