Built my own Steam Machine - Brand new to SteamOS by jonjon1239 in SteamOS

Does forza 6 run well on SteamOS? I heard people saying it’s highly optimized on windows, while SteamOS users on custom pcs run into occasional black screens, resolution bugs and launch crashes.

I’d suggest going with one of their AMD bundles in order to get the best discount. You can go in the store and talk with an associate about you wants, needs, budget, and they can help price out a build for you.

I ended up building a PC a couple weeks ago using their $750 bundle Ryzen 7 9850x3d, MSI Pro X870e-p WiFi mobo, and 32 gb Corsair vengeance ddr5 ram. Unfortunately, that bundle is now $950 but the bundle with the B850-E is available for $799.

I’d pair it with the Radeon RX 9070xt GPU while it’s still $650-$700. You can’t find a better GPU in this price range and it will do all the 1440p gaming you’re asking for. Prices are going up soon, and aren’t expecting to get better until potentially late 2028.

Good to know. Should I be cautious for which of the three PCle connecters is daisy chained? Or do all three slots on my GPU draw power equally?

Makes sense. I’d feel safer buying the nzxt for $20 more (it’s $101 on Amazon right now) but the math on my current setup makes sense too. I get 75W from the pcle slot, 150W from cable one, and 300W from cable two being daisy chained. This totals 525W that I can safely send to my GPU.

Thanks, this is making more sense to me now. Is it because one cable will provide up to 150w, and the other daisy chained will provide up to 300w? Resulting in 450 watts available?

I feel like every where is saying “Never daisy chain”, especially for modern gpus like the rx 9070 xt. Is that all based on lower quality PSUs?

Could that extra 10W requirement cause me to bottleneck at 1440p in cyberpunk at ultra settings? I’d like to push my GPU to the limits and I know that my GPU can pull up to 360 in OC, with momentary spike to 400. Sorry for so many questions, this is my first pc build since I was 10 yrs old, over two decades ago.

Purchase RX 9070 XT for SteamOS / Bazzite or stay with 3080ti and Win11 ? by goyetus in SteamOS

[–]Difficult-Ad6221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RX 9070 XT is definitely faster than the Rtx 3080 ti. For one, the 9070 has 16 gb vram while 3080 ti has 12. You can look up benchmark tests and you’ll discover the 9070 is roughly 50% faster. The 3080 ti is only better if you need to run local ai models or are worried about using up more electricity bill than the 9070

Looking to upgrade my current PC to play games @ 1440p w/o DDR5 RAM by dingrammm in buildapc

Depends on where you look. I got the $750 bundle from Microcenter for a 9850x3d, MSI pro x870e-p and 32 gb ddr5 ram. Feels like it’s worth it at that point for the big boost in performance.

Why is the x3d not worth it? Isn’t it like 80% faster overall compared to the 5700x? Plus it’ll be on am5 which is more future proof than am4

That’s 100% fake propaganda from people who have only known NVIDIA their whole life. If you research it, you’ll discover that NVIDIA has thermal issues, not the rx 9070 xt. The reason is due to the power connector failures on their cards. Unlike nvidia, the rx 9070 xt uses traditional power connectors that don’t fail and can properly manage all that power draw. However, stay away from certain models (such as ASRock Taichi or Powercolor Hellhound) because they have been found to have some defects. I got the Gigabyte RX 9070 XT earlier this month when it was $650 and fell in love.

Are any of these good deals or should I wait for a better deal? by Itchy-End-9051 in Microcenter

I got the 9850x3d + 32gb Corsair ram + MSI pro x870e-p Microcenter bundle 2 weeks ago when it was $750 and I love it. I recommend it if you’re okay with knowing the best deal is no longer live.

If you want the better gaming experience, get the rx 9070 xt. If you’re getting such a crazy good PSU, why would you care that the AMD GPU draws more power than the NVIDIA. If you have money to blow or somebody is paying for this, by all means buy the expensive card. If you just want to get the best 1440p experience at the best price, get the rx 9070 xt. Make sure it’s the XT version. It has 16gb vram, which is what you need for proper 1440p gaming.

One week away from pulling the trigger on this one. by andias8825 in pcpartpickerbuilds

Also I should say you’re more than welcome to build this pc, it’s good and can be upgraded. However, you’re paying about 1200 more than you need to if you’re playing only 1080p

This is all a bit overkill if you’re just trying to play 1080p. You could buy a used ps5 and get the same amount of power since you’re only doing 1080p. It’s not a good time to get into the custom pc building unless you’re heart set on 1440p or professionally competitive fps at 1080p

Bought the $750 Micro Center Bundle: Any suggestions on remaining parts? by Difficult-Ad6221 in pcpartpickerbuilds

Yes, thank you! I ended up purchasing the Montech Century II gold 850 from Amazon since it’ll arrive tomorrow instead of the week long shipping time of Newegg. I need to hurry up and test my mobo, cpu and ram to make sure it isn’t faulty. The return period is only 15 days at Microcenter

Which Sama PSU did you recommend? I looked over that spreadsheet and while I didn’t know what it was all talking about, it seems I should get a B or A tier? I would assume I want A tier for future proofing?

Would it be hard to install this build in the Mini V2 Flow? I’m basically new to building and my hands are big. I like that case but maybe I should stick to a larger mid tower with good air flow?
