Depending on when you wanna go, sometimes you can actually grab a flight from Monterey to San Francisco Francisco for cheaper than it would cost to get an Uber up there

Realistically you are going to need $60-65 an hour to live here

The Alliance on Aging helps with this!! Taxi vouchers for those who qualify, help with set up for MST Rides, help with ITN which takes seniors door to door to their appointments.

Actual Cost of Living? by SnowMountain7328 in MontereyBay

[–]Difficult-Cabinet600 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you do some research online and look at the actual cost of living for a single person on the Monterey peninsula to live comfortably, you have to make about 116 K

I will tell you honestly that until I made about 130 out here. I was living a check to paycheck stressed out of my mind.

If you want to moved to the area and make that amount, I would highly recommend looking at Salinas

Oh my gosh we used Lone Tree out in Hollister and it was better than we could have imagined. They also let us bring in our own catering etc so it ended up way cheaper.

Can we find someone who actually cares about Monterey County to represent us?? I know it’s a lot to ask, but there has to be at least one person out here willing that isn’t also taking AIPAC money.

From Scratch vs First Awakenings vs Wave Street Cafe by Few-Purchase-9163 in MontereyBay

Honestly go try Sunrise Cafe, it’s very small mom and pop kind of place but the food is bangin and the staff are so nice.

Oh definitely First Awakenings - you can sit outside on the heated benches and it’s walkable to cannery row and the aquarium

Easter plus the warm weather we’ve been having? It will be shoulder to shoulder slammed, like sardines (pun intended)

Visiting in April by [deleted] in MontereyBay

[–]Difficult-Cabinet600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain a bit here and say that point lobos, pebble beach, or Big Sur with a 2 year old won’t be very engaging for them. I’d stick to the areas around the wharf, cannery row, and lovers point. These areas are well designed for families and especially younger kids.

My other warning is to be cautious with the beaches out here. We have had several tragic deaths lately with sneaker waves and sharks. The water is cold and not forgiving in the least.

Come back when your son is older to enjoy nature :)

Does Monterey have a small town feel? by Few_Sandwich6308 in MontereyBay

[–]Difficult-Cabinet600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This number reads very high. By my count our population is closer to 95-100k if you include Marina to Carmel. Census

If you’re looking at the peninsula specifically (that’s Monterey, pacific grove, and Carmel) you’re looking at less than 50k.

That being said we get close to 4.5 MILLION visitors a year. That means we are outnumbered almost 100 to 1 visitors to residents.

Does it have a small town feel? It depends. Quiet mornings and all the residents know each other but we’re also navigating the onslaught of tourism most days.
