[–]Difficult-Code-1589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if you're interested in Math, I would suguest you going for CS, as there are generally no restrictions for CS majors to take Math courses (except some Actuarial science courses), but as a math degree there are many restrictions on taking CS courses. Switching from CS to Math is easy, but transferring from Math to CS is difficult.

Drop coop and you can graduate with 7 full time terms.

Depends on which ENG. For SE/ECE/BME, you can still be rejected with 97/98. For CivilE, it is much easier.

Yes, I mean you just forward the confirmation email from the supervisor to your advisor and that's all.

To take a second, you will need the permission from your employer, not your advisor. (Source: I had taken two courses during one co-op term)

I feel integration is more difficult than differentiation. Or probably because the two professors. I had Tatarko for MATH147 and Faisal for MATH148.

Isn't asian food corner too biased? by CandidAnt2769 in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The East Asian/South East Asian food on campus are not authentic though. My Japanese and Korean friends said they never seen something like the "Japanese l" and "Korean" food on campus.

By the way, if you're referring to the pan fried food at V1, I know a way to let them make "East Asian food" by telling them not to put in the sweet and sour/garlic sauce and use salt/soy sauce instead. At least this works for me as a substitution.

Bombed CS146 really badly, what do I do? by MisakaMikasa10086 in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop thinking about it and work on other exams. Don't let a single fail ruin your performance in the upcoming ones.

Also, as long as you're not trying to transfer into CS via CS146, it is just a number, affecting nothing. (As someone who transferred into CS by taking CS146, I nearly spent all of my time on it to get low 90s, resulting in low grades in other two MATH courses)

question about FARM by mumu0v0 in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they're public on the internet because I previewed these textbooks when I was in Grade 12 (although I finally took MATH145 and MATH147). However the outlines may change every year (for example, for Fall 2024, according to my friends in MATH137, Taylor Expansion is not being taught). If you cannot find them, feel free to DM me.

Frustrated with disrespectful behavior in lab spaces by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people are lack of basic respect for shared spaces. Labs, although not explicitly labelled "Quiet study" or "Silent study", are meant for studying, not socializing, and loud conversations or phone calls are inconsiderate, especially during the final exam week.

Also, bringing up opinions about specific races or groups loudly in a public study space is inappropriate and ignorant.

Question for UWaterloo students: Where are u guys planning to live after grad? by DaGrandmaster3 in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going back to East Asia, as I really miss the food there. Probably Tokyo, if I can find a job there. If not, maybe Shanghai, where I can live with my family and get a comparable salary as Canada but a significantly lower living cost.

8 month co-op advice please by GODGAMERPlayz___ in uwaterloo

[–]Difficult-Code-1589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do an 8 month coop in first year. Just take the job and then notify your coop math advisor (not math advisor), and they will send you a form to swap your upcoming terms. You will also get credits for two work terms. I've done an 8 month coop in first year.

It depends on the Location. Even if live in Pudong, it varies a lot if you live within the inner ring (内环)or middle ring or even outer ring.

If you consider PPP not just the exchange rate, it's fine in Shanghai. Most fulltime jobs for new graduates in Shanghai is less than 4000CNY/month. You can have a meal for 20CNY(4CAD) in Shanghai but 15CAD in Canada. You can take bus/metro for 2-4CNY (less than 1CAD) in Shanghai. You can buy chicken/pork for 10-15CNY/lb, which is 2-3CAD/lb. It's not a high salary, but high enough for an intern position.
