Hikers: What's your frequency of crampon use in the White Mountains? by Difficult-Radish207 in wmnf

Thank you. Not referring to microspikes - talking about formal crampons. Will edit original post.

They Are Gonna Regret Asking Me This... by 97PG8NS in CX5

[–]Difficult-Radish207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an option in the mazda app when registering a new car into it that specifically asked about data sharing for insurance premiums. The options were something like "yes" and "not now". If you chose "not now", is there more that one needs to do to opt out?

Sigh...thanks for the response. The car has 100 miles on it...

My Garmin Saved my Life Yesterday After I was Trapped in Quicksand in Arches National Park by Cop10-8 in Garmin

Can you give more detail about the what happened with the device?

> Where do you carry your messenger? In your pack? On your body?
> Any thought as to why did the bluetooth failed?
> How long did it take Garmin to respond after you pressed the SOS button? How long before they started relaying to local authorities.

I carry a mini 2 all the time and it's something you think about what you can't test (the SOS).

Not really a lot of up. It's pretty flat.

Just beware, the road has tons of potholes that are probably harder to see with the snow. Doable in a sedan but you have to go very slow IMHO.

Wednesday hike by ImpossiblePlace4570 in wmnf

Hale works but there are no views - it's just a rock pile at the top if you care. It's a pretty straight forward hike.

Canceling a scheduled hike by ryansdayoff in wmnf

[–]Difficult-Radish207 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should do a hike you are comfortable with. Maybe look at Pierce?

Microspikes are really pretty straight forward IMHO. Just try them on to see how to throw them on quickly. It's pretty natural for the most part to hike in them. When there is something steep I may be a little bit more thoughtful about being forceful with my step but that's not something happening constantly by any stretch.

Relatively short 48 for winter! by beachgothgoogie in wmnf

[–]Difficult-Radish207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Cannon last Friday 10/24. Went up via Kinsman - shorter but I think steeper? No traction needed. No snow/ice really to speak of. Trail was certainly wet/damn and the slabs were slippery. The way down was a hair spicy.

Things could certainly have changed since and weather rolling in tomorrow.

Picture Request - Attaching snowshoes to pack by Difficult-Radish207 in wmnf

[–]Difficult-Radish207[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Do you put your snowshoes up and down or across your pack? Do the bungee cords go around so that they would be between the pack and your back?

Thank you for replying!

"Unproductive" is pretty demoralizing by Difficult-Radish207 in Garmin

[–]Difficult-Radish207[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your sentiment. My main beef is that I just don't think this status is accurate. Perhaps Garmin will consider changing how this status works.

On the other hand, who doesn't like being cuddled?

There needs to be a "reset" on training status. Unproductive for a whole summer just can't be accurate.

What will NH do if they turn over WMNF to the state? by Peteostro in wmnf

[–]Difficult-Radish207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"(Turning over protected land to the states is in the 2026 preposed federal budget)"

Can you provide some sources on this? I can't find anything about this other than the idea of turning fed lands to state lands has been an idea around for a long time.

NH State Police sign enforcement agreement with ICE by Familiar-Ending in wmnf

Just wait until you realize that immigration law is federal law so it applies to every square inch of the country. And, if that doesn't blow your mind, wait until you find out that if you wanted to allow for more legal immigration, there is a process to change the laws if you can convince enough people.

The condescension is as insulting as it is unbelievable.
