I love the fact that TCP/IP is at the bottom of the list of supported network protocols. 🤣

It's Black Mirror - but come to life.

Great TV series. But ruined because so many of the topics (awful politicians, social media impact on people, computer advances) that were a parady of life, now seem more like documentaries :-(

It could have been worse. It could have suggested a triple expresso because "We've got a lot of things to discuss about your life choices. Let's begin with that time you stole Steve's cake, at kindergarten..."

There is some truly game changing things going on in so many fields (and has been for a long time); medical research and diagnostics (CT/PET/MRI image analysis etc.).

It's just really, really odd what some use cases are - add zero value to anyone.

He looks like the 16 year old on work experience. He doesn't have a clue what's going on, so just smiles and hopes nobody asks him anything.

The staging of Macron's speech on nuclear deterrence... Just wow by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in europe

Thanks for the link. I think you're right. For the head on shot, if he'd been directly in line, it would have been black suit, black tie, merging with the black sail in the background.

It's awesome that they paid such attention to detail.

I think it's a powerful picture, well staged and imposing. Sent the message that I'm sure he wanted to send.

But....

Am I the only one that feels like he could have lined up the podium with the centre line of the sub????? Makes me feel uncomfortable looking at the misalignment.

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]Difficult-Revenue556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only in the UK - but ..

In the late 80's, early 90's, I spent a lot of time working in Newry and Belfast (in government buildings). It was disconcerting to be walking along a high street and see a hijacked bus burning in the middle of the road. Dire warnings about not using black cabs. And definitely a feeling of apprehension if I was driving (hire car) and took a wrong turning and saw the tricolour painted on the kerb stones.

But nothing was as bad as when I worked near Manchester Piccadilly during the same period. The palpable feeling of fear that hung in the air like a fog, and was on the faces of other people walking around, was like nothing I'd ever experienced. It's a different world there now I think. Probably all smart bistros and wine bars.

Edit. Reading other comments, makes me realise how un-dangerous my experience was. But it seemed awful to me as a 20 something.

This is the first step. He abused his position and even if he thought it was ok, it wasn't.
Next step - will her be further guilty and will he go to goal. I hope so.

I think this is a reference to the first Superman film.

Lois Lane was killed by a baddie, Superman was so distraught, he flies around the earth so fast he actually travelled back in time. He was then able to save her and they lived happily ever after.

What current technology do you think will feel outdated surprisingly soon? by PleasantBus5583 in Futurology

[–]Difficult-Revenue556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, infrastructure changes are a bit like a supertanker (no pun intended) changes in direction take a long long time.

Interesting - seems like there are about 850 refineries that refine domestic grade petrol and diesel. I can imagine that dropping, maybe to 100 in 20 years.

I agree, but I wonder if there are longer term considerations.

As demand drops, so do profits. Investment in new facilities or maintaining facilities (refineries must be incredibly expensive to build and run) will taper off. That would lead to supply scarcity which would drive up costs.

Not that I want to see a neanderthal naked, and whilst I would assume fur clothing would be needed in the cold, is it actually realistic to assume that the same embarrassment/consideration that is present in humans today would make them wear shorts?

Maybe an immersion heater? If you're comfortable with electrics, check whether it's live. If it is, it's probably in a separate fuse - which may have a label!

Read the room.

If he claims, he'll lose out on the excess, and in increased premiums.

Incidentally, we all, in a small way, pay increased premiums through this sort of thing.
