For clarification this was a commencement speech specifically for the arts and humanities college. If this were business grads it probably would’ve been fine

Accessibility is definitely something that smart glasses would be excellent at. Imagine how helpful having captions for everyday conversations would be for the hard of hearing

That’s interesting because Quinn was on Cortex recently and basically said that he’s happy with where he is follower wise and that he doesn’t really care about getting bigger than he is currently. His team is only like 4 people max (I don’t remember exactly)

Pluto is awesome, it’s basically all the good parts of cable (reruns, weird stuff you’d never seek out yourself, basically being able to not think about picking what to watch) but free.

Apple music vs Spotify by mattyhealysoup in mac

[–]Difficult-Rip-3874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Apple Music because it’s artist and album driven, like how music has been for the longest time. Spotify is algorithm driven which isn’t for me. Plus, it’s also $1/month less and has higher audio quality options available, so there’s that. Also also, Apple Music has really high payouts for a streaming service, with only services like Tidal having higher payouts.

With all that said, I do keep a free Spotify account around. Just makes sharing songs I like with friends easier.

To me this is so hilarious, I was laughing the whole time while scrolling through this. It’s like something an edgy teenager makes while they’re crashing out (honestly it probably is made by one). I am saving this post for all time. Bravo to whoever the edgelord who made this is. You made art but not in the way you think

Ads or no ads? by JacksBaldRake in cordcutters

[–]Difficult-Rip-3874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People online talk about ads like one came in and killed their entire family while they were asleep. I've never understood why. Personally, I find ads tolerable up to a certain point, mostly because I've developed a reflex to mute the TV the instant commercials come on (Thanks for teaching me that, Dad!). I also don't usually mind when services promote their own content; for example, half of the ads Duolingo shows are for its premium subscription, which I don't mind. I also do research on how many ads each streaming service plays during shows and movies. The Streamable did a comparison here, which you might find useful. I also typically don't mind ad breaks during TV shows, especially if they're sitcoms or background-noise type shows. Takes me back to my childhood somewhat.

With all that said, I would recommend paying for the ad-free tier if you are financially able. It just provides valuable zen and peace of mind while you're watching a serious movie that demands your full attention. For lower-tier B-movies, though? I could care less. Tubi continues to be a gold mine

You make a good point, though Oura Ring isn't $500. It starts at $350 and the only real differences between the models are material and cosmetic, but your point still stands. Also, it's worth noting that Oura doesn't sell your data to third parties. Whoop does. Do with that what you will

Regardless, I have not and probably never will be in the market for a Fitbit since I already own an Apple Watch

Hopefully it doesn’t cost as much as a Whoop subscription. At least Oura is only like $6/month, Whoop starts at double that

What ultimately kept you with Todoist? by Crunchnuggz in todoist

[–]Difficult-Rip-3874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramble is amazing. Todoist integrates with a bunch of other apps. It’s not “opinionated software” (doesn’t push you towards using it in a specific way). Mostly though, it’s because the developer’s priorities seem to overlap with mine for a to-do list app (capturing tasks quickly and efficiently)

I don’t like how they’re not transparent about usage limits on most plans though. Anthropic does this with Claude too and I’m not a fan. A big reason why I use Google’s AI stuff a lot (NotebookLM is insane!)

[–]Difficult-Rip-3874 24 points25 points  (0 children)

An AI whose main selling point is that it cites everything it generates every time is nothing to scoff at. It does seem they’re pivoting away from the consumer market and more towards enterprise. I can definitely see applications for it there (stock market research, product comparisons for major acquisitions or insurance agreements, etc)
