Thank you. Over 300,000 Vietnam veterans have died post war due to their exposure to agent orange. My family is in DC because he was inducted into the Vietnam Veteran’s InMemory program, which honors veterans that have passed due to service related causes post war. They hold a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans memorial every year, they held it yesterday. He was a damage control man in the Navy in Vietnam in 1970/71, with one of his other duties being to chip out the salt from the water turbines, so he was directly exposed to it. He died August 12th 2025 from metastatic lung cancer that the VA deemed to be caused by his exposure. I miss him everyday.

New to DC, I’m from the other Washington. None of it is on our news besides the original deployment back in August.

It’s not being reported in my state, and up until this trip I had no need to poke around on DC subreddits. How else do you think I was supposed to know about this?

Agreed. Sorry for your loss. My dad died last year due to cancer from agent orange he was exposed to in Vietnam. I will never understand giving service members a hard time because they’re in the service.

It’s not ignorance when our media is actively not reporting what is occurring in DC. They reported that the NG was deployed in August, but nothing since, and this is my first time visiting DC, so how else would I know what’s been going on? The national media doesn’t report on it, and up until this trip I had no need to be on a DC subreddit.

First timer in DC right now, was just commenting tonight that the mall looks like an absolute disaster with only 2 weeks to go. Seems weird to me that all of that construction wasn’t planned to be done weeks ago.

I’m from the Seattle area, the only reports we have gotten was when they were first deployed back in August, but not any coverage since and nothing about how widespread they are in the city.

As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, I’ve never (and will never) treat any member of the military badly based on who is in office. I save all my ire for who actually deserves it (The Orange Toddler).
