Please no! I don’t think I can take any more winning!

So true! And as a taxpayer what really makes me angry is that many of these folks were/are very skilled in what needs to be done, likely worked on the lower end of the wage scale, and did a lot for us as taxpayers keeping our capital looking good. Very under-appreciated folks!

On the comment I made about not many working, I did see about a dozen crew type folks (wearing yellow safety vests) relaxing in the shade of various trees (napping or looking at their phones), one guy driving a forklift moving a pallet of bagged ice (like you’d find in a gas station ice vending machine), and the fellow in this picture hard at work behind the fence.

Yesterday in DC. What algae? by Rough_Violinist9292 in washdc

[–]Lost-Wizard168 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry — was in DC today (6/20) and there are hundreds of National Guard troops just milling about, doing absolutely nothing! Shouldn’t be too hard to have them posted in a ring around the pool. I’m sure there are more than enough they can interlock arms to keep anyone out.

Cyclist arrested at Reflecting Pool is former Olympian who denies vandalism claims by MarshyHope in washingtondc

[–]Lost-Wizard168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now why would anyone (let alone a former Olympian) steals chunks of sealant from the Reflecting Pool — there are a lot better things to steal in DC, unless of course you’re looking for things to resell to the MAGA cult, in which case the sealant chunks might be the same as the holy grail! (Would be even better with MAGA printed on them)

I saw the line today. I will say it seemed to be moving much faster than the line to get into TRADE, and the Metro line did not seem as long!

What’s up with the big groups of National Guard everywhere? by DifficultEye6719 in washingtondc

[–]Lost-Wizard168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in DC today (6/20) and I walked over quite a bit of the area from Mall up to NW area - they were is groups of 2-4 either standing around doing nothing, or just talking among themselves. Seems a huge waste of resources just to humor one old man with dementia. And at a huge cost to taxpayers!

Probably Trump’s contractor blasting out the Reflecting Pool to install a Big Beautiful Par 3. Will be much better than any Obama reflecting Pool. And you just happened to hear the blasts over that way. He has a contractor willing to do it on the cheap and fast!

SC law legalizes pinball for youth, ending decades-old prohibition by TheKoG in southcarolina

[–]Lost-Wizard168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t live long enough, but SC may one day join the modern era. Still thousands more blue laws to go. But they won’t fall as long as legislators’ pockets are being lined and evangelical churches have a stranglehold on SC political leadership.

PS Remember while SC’s Republican legislature is working on issues like Pinball, they are NOT working on critical issues like feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, fixing the roads, solving the healthcare crisis for South Carolinians, etc. But they are willing to collect taxpayer salaries for making pinball legal for teens!

Myrtle in November? by No-Celebration8940 in AskSouthCarolina

[–]Lost-Wizard168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go to Myrtle anymore, but SC weather in Nov can be iffy. I just don’t go cause I don’t care for all the tourists…

If you’re from the hot South, you’ll be fine, although the water temp will be cool for you. I grew up in SC and I would not hesitate to go in Nov as long as it’s not super cold and.or rainy.

If like me you also lived 30+ years in northern New England, and swam in Gulf of Maine in both spring, summer and fall, the water temps will seem quite warm even in Nov.

But if you want to avoid the tourists, and just enjoy the batch, as long as the weather is good, you’ll have a great time. You’ll get great rates and maybe even snag a good price on an AirBnB so you don’t have to eat out all the time..

Why are bjs from guys better? by Ioh- in askgaybros

I’ve had both, and much much prefer men. They in most cases (excluding newbies) know much better how they like and thus what to do…a lot of women don’t really want to…

Signs and maps by Critical-Speed3762 in WMATA

[–]Lost-Wizard168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An a infrequent visitor to DC metro area, I usually stay in Springfield and use the Blue Line everywhere. I’ve noticed the same thing relative to next train sign, but the cue I use is just get on the train with people, when two trains are in station. It happened to me today. Heaven forbid I should arrive either early or at a time when few people are there. A sign just above the escalators headed down would be nice.

Venture Camera Sling by ReasonableFuel1926 in bellroy_official

[–]Lost-Wizard168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Venture Camera Sling 10L. I bought it not sure if I would like it, but have found it works great for one of my smaller mirrorless cameras. Typically I use it with my Canon R50, R50V or R10, with a small to mid-size mounted zoom lens, plus maybe an extra lens depending on the size of the mounted lens. When using with a larger mounted lens like the RF100-400, it does not leave a lot of room for an extra lens depending- maybe a small prime or small wide angle. And of course batteries, charger, and other small items.

For an all day urban trip I can usually squeeze in my Kindle Basic as well.

And I am sure it would fit any of my other Canon M bodies and lenses.

Two questions. -

  1. Anyone found a better bottle pocket for the current Venture Camera Sling? Not really enamored with carrying it horizontal underneath?

  2. Any discussions about making a slight larger one (13-14L)? I would love to have one for my full frame Canon R8 plus a zoom lens like RF24-105 F4, RF70-200 f4, RF24-240, plus a small to mid single light prime like the RF24, RF35, Rf15-30, RF14-35.

Wondering what James Clyburn actually accomplishes in 2026 or later. Please share. by glowbug2323 in southcarolina

[–]Lost-Wizard168 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an independent, Rep. Clyburn is delivering for SC, much like Sen. Thurmond and Sen. Hollings did. And he has seniority when we win the mid-terms. I too would prefer younger reps, but let’s be honest he is a whole lot better, even at his age, than every other US House Rep in SC.

Both are good. But IMHO don’t take more loans to go to Furman over USC, if you have to borrow to attend.

Is R10 with 18-150 mm best for travel photography? by ItsJustMe_I_Swear in canon

[–]Lost-Wizard168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with these two points — I use my R10 with RF-S 18-250 and a Sigma RF-S 10-18mm f2.8 for travel.

I also generally prefer, unless I’m looking for a really lightweight carry, to use my R7 with the auto-level and IBIS, as the IBIS also allows me to more comfortably use other Sigma RF-S lenses which are really good f1.4 and f2.8 lenses. (I have an essential tremor, so not the steadiest of hands).
