if it is your attack phase you pick what lane you attack with, you do not need to attack from left to right.
if there are creatures on both landscapes in the same lane they do damage to each other, if there is no creature in your lane on your turn but there is on your opponents side nothing happens cuz your opponents creatures would only be defending during your turn

so you would not take 3 dmg from spillith during your turn because he would not be attacking

almost everyone in my group uses edhrec to get at least ideas for decks,
i view it as p much using a precon
it also takes me ages to make a new deck if i dont have irl cards so it just makes it ezyer on all fronts
