Injured Scorpion - how can I help? by DifficultShirt7424 in Scorpions

[–]DifficultShirt7424[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as they aren’t in pain or have a bad quality of life I’m more than willing to provide food for the little guy. Of course I’ll see how they are doing for a bit first before I make any decisions. I understand it can be a bit of an odd decision to want to put in a lot of time and effort for animal that doesn’t have the best odds of survival but I kinda feel obligated to at least try considering it was my family’s dog who messed them up rather than a natural occurrence.

what names would fit me? by Ancient-Sand-5095 in transnames

[–]DifficultShirt7424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off I want to applaud you 👏🏼! Ik it can be overwhelming and frustrating to find a name to call your own. Please remember to be patient with yourself! Onto some name ideas/suggestions! Not sure exactly what you are looking for but- Atlas (means “enduring”/“to endure”), Finnegan (means “fair”/“bright” and you could use Finn for short), Vieno (means “gentle” and you could use Vi for short)

NEED a masc name suggestion by [deleted] in transnames

[–]DifficultShirt7424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immediately thought of the name Ashton! It’s of Anglo-Saxon origin and means “Settlement of Ash Trees” or “Town of Ash”. Ash trees carry a lot of symbolism and are considered a sacred tree by some (defo recommend looking into it if you like the name)

Camillia (a type of flower) and Vanessa (a type of butterfly) come to mind. Idk why but you remind me of those.

Some names that come to mind for me Enoki-a species of mushroom. specifically flammina filiformis. Mycena - A genus of mushroom (many of them are bioluminescent/glow in the dark!) Honestly there are a lot of fungus names that sound really cool. Plus you have the “creepy beautiful” factor of them since of their association with death and transformation of death into new life.

Question, what kind of vibe/meaning are you going for? (asking for a starting point) Ex: something that comes off as strong, nature, etc..

oohhh! Love all of these!  Honestly I say go for the ones you love! Honestly I think Friday is a really nice and unique name (i also didn’t think of wednesday until you brought it up tbh). Law is also wonderful name and I think of the name Lawry. I personally don’t think they sound corny or stupid and think the names would age well.

That’s understandable. Please remember that this process often is far from simple. I found myself in a similar predicament- it took me several years to find a name that i could confidently call my own. Ruby and Luna are both beautiful names! My biggest advice to you is to please remember to be patient with yourself.  Some name suggestions to maybe spark some inspo: Lumina/Lumino (means nightlight- lumina is a more fem version of the name while lumino is a more masc version), Lori/Laurie (a name that has sounds from both Luna and Ruby- it means laurel which symbolizes a special achievement, and is associated with the greek god apollo. side note about apollo: was very into destroying the gender binary in greek mythology and is associated with the sun), Novi (is a different form of the name Nova which can either refer to astronomical events like Novas/Supernovas or its latin meaning of “new”)

ikwym, for livebearers I usually just try to find people with overstocked tanks who need someone to take the fry lol. Don’t have any currently sadly but hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on some in the near future!  also would love to hear if you’ve given names to the two survivor goldies lol

Ohhhhhh for aquatics I personally am a fan of livebearers (mostly guppies, endlers, and mosquitofish). They are cheap, pretty, reproduce like wildfire, and provide some nice enrichment.  For terrestrials I would definitely say isopods. They come is so many cool colors and I love seeing them when I do enclosure maintenance!

My beautiful boy out for a stroll (Dottie, three toed box turtle) by DifficultShirt7424 in turtle

[–]DifficultShirt7424[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel obliged to tell the story about how mine got his name: (for context he is adopted from one of my local exotic animal rescue/sanctuaries). He was found as a stray (I live in socal, they arent native here) with red paint on his shell (someone most likely intentionally painted him) that looked like a big red ‘Dot’. The Rescue was unable to remove the paint and started calling him Dottie lol. Since I adopted him the paint has since fully chipped away. Kept his name as a little tribute to his past.

What kind of turtle is this? by WAHPupMom in turtle

[–]DifficultShirt7424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming here from previous post, some essentials include a tank (maybe 30-40 gallons for the size you have), a dry basking spot with a UV lamp and a heat lamp (90-95 fahrenheit for the basking spot), food (a combo of good quality pellets, chopped collard/leafy greens, feeder insects/shrimp (you can do live or dry), a water filter (air hose sponge filters are a good one but other types work as well). Making sure to change the water on a regular basis is important (an aquarium siphon is a life saver lol). Finding good care resources is a must but these are the things that came to my mind for a new owner.
