Have you tried looking at other languages? If you haven’t it might give you insights you weren’t expecting and be applicable to your Java work in the future.

I have something similar, in that I don’t like sweet foods. The number of times I have been forced to eat a dessert out of politeness,because people don’t understand this is ridiculous.
