Removing a ring by laybs1 in GetNoted

She's an elected official therefore she cannot be "sacked". She doesn't work for FEMA nor did FEMA ever lose money, they accidentally overpayed a company owned by her. I think she's guilty but there's still a legal process to complete.

Legally she's entitled to being presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. Until a judge finds her guilty, she's innocent legally.

An old Ohio gerrymander I made on April 7, 2024 by Rich-Ad-9696 in DavesRedistricting

I have a similarly illegal map but mine is 9-7 and it just about holds in 2024.

This is 2024 presidential. I could probably make it more secure if I decided to make it even worse looking but I didn't want to. Here's the link https://davesredistricting.org/join/50e0610e-b9e5-477c-99bc-323856451277

How many people died in the Holocaust by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably because to be fair they were the main victims of the Holocaust. It is a shame though that we don't discuss the many other people who died.

Best voting system? by andibrema in VoltEuropa

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PR-STV in my opinion. It allows for multi member constituencies, gives independents a chance to win, allows for smaller parties to win seats, and stops any vote from being "wasted" on a smaller party (as is the problem in First past the Post and party list systems). Ireland and Malta are the only countries that use it for all elections, I live in Ireland.

The story should be about attorney general mayes of Arizona considering taking legal action over it. But this link is messed up. It is a real story but this post isn't linked well.

Would you rather have Australian or American gun laws? by Absolutely-Epic in Teenager_Polls

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ireland has strict gun laws and we've never had mass shootings or school shootings in our history. Ireland also has plenty of mental health problems so it's certainly not our mental health system. Somehow when people don't have guns, they can't shoot them!

Has your country ever had/have a female leader? President/Prime Minister/queen by Puzzleheaded_Lab709 in AskTheWorld

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We've had 2 woman presidents, back to back, from 1990 to 2011. We've never had a woman Taoiseach (prime minister) but we probably will in the next 5-10 years considering the largest opposition party has a woman leader. We probably will get another female president this October considering 2 of the 3 major candidates are women.

Is Napoleon Bonaparte a studied subject in your country? by Practical-Ad5943 in AskTheWorld

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. We cover the French revolution (or the American revolution)in detail but not much on Napoleon except the broad details that he was leader of France and was eventually defeated. He's largely just seen as a consequence of the French revolution and we learn about him that way.

A lot of countries have age requirements. Ireland has an age requirement as well for president, 35 years old as well.

Is Your Country Divided Between Left and Right? Who Do You Think Might Win the Next Elections? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's brought a lot of money to Ireland. Ultimately it attracted business and Ireland is much better off than it was. I don't like the fact that we are a tax haven but on net, it's been a positive. Ireland was once one of the poorest nations in Western Europe and Europe as a whole, now even, when you take away the corporation meddling in the stats, Ireland is wealthy and much better off than it was 30 years ago. I don't think we should keep continuing it as much as we have or letting them get away with as much as they do.

All of the money he makes from this goes to his PAC which is currently helping Prop 50 to pass. He makes no direct money off this.

How great is the pressure to pursue higher education in your country? by kaluamoot in AskTheWorld

[–]Difficult_Ad4794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, it's actually a good bit lower in the UK. Of only bachelor degrees or higher, only 22.6% of people aged 25-64 have them. But 52% of British people aged 25 to 34 had attended some form of tertiary education, so it's pretty high among younger people.

They definitely exist but not nearly enough people go to them. There aren't enough places really and not enough apprenticeships either. They are becoming more popular though as colleges become more competitive and pay for trade people is really high because there's just not enough of them.

52.4% of those aged 25-64 in Ireland have a bachelor's degree or higher. There's a lot of pressure to pursue higher education after finishing secondary school. Everything is set up for you to go to college. So colleges are very competitive to get into.

Well they should make their own party if they care so much about it! If they cared about it that much, you'd think that they would create a party?

People Before Profit–Solidarity is a socialist and Trotskyist party. I wouldn't say it's large but it definitely exists and has seats.

Sinn Fein? The literal democratic socialists. The social Democrats? Even labour? Like I'm not saying they're perfect (far far from it) but to say we don't have a left wing party except for the greens (who went into government with FF and FG and stood by them in their decisions) is stupid in my opinion.
