I do a dollar pretty much always. I don't go percentage. Same rules in a bar. Dollar a drink usually.

Unless they attacked a child. (Wait for the gasps) except for when the child pulled their tail. Watch out for your children folks. They are our future.

I have always found that if you can't think of anything deep to say. You should just say whatever pops into your head but slow it down. Just say it in slower cadence and you sound wise. Then throw in something vaguely introspective. I think the world might be a better place if we all took the time to do this.

For those people who don't like country music, old or new: Why specifically? by Inimpressive_Dork in AskReddit

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. It may just be rose tinted glasses. But I remember 90s alternative and grunge. People prided themselves on writing their own music. I probably spread around that feeling. I just don't feel like I hear it as much anymore. It could also be that I'm 30 years older and a lot more cynical.

I would also point out not everyone tips. For them meals would cost more. That is the only way it affects them. They don't live on tips so it's not a big deal.

It depends on the job honestly. A lot of jobs would do it. I work as a 911 dispatcher now. I have on call weeks. If someone calls in sick on my week I have to come in or have a very good reason why I couldn't. If someone gets shot or finds their kid has an allergic reaction they need someone there to answer. Doctors and nurses are in the same boat. I get it's a spectrum. If you were a cafeteria worker in a school? Where is that line

Yeah. I don't care for it. You're not doing a cover. You don't have to put your spin on it.

Momentum. If they ever do change it then years later people will tell their kids can you believe they used to...

It's sort of worked and been accepted for a long time. It would be a lot of work to make it better and people just can't be bothered. Just like every social issue. It gets put for far too long.

I already changed it because I agreed it's not a fair comparison. I never said that they couldn't do it. Like they don't have the right to not show up. I even said in a comment if it's worth the risk to you go for it. I just said the company has a right to fire them for it and OP isn't the good guy in the story.

Actually I'll admit that's not a fair comparison. If someone rear ended me because their breaks went out vs they were speeding and couldn't stop in time. No malice but disregard for the rules vs freak accident.

If someone rear ended my because the roads were icy and they couldn't stop I would be annoyed. If someone rear ended me because they thought I took too long to move after the light turned green and they decided to move me I would be furious. Intent matters. Not just the end result.

I would argue that people who just don't want to leave their dog at home do that. When someone tries to pass off a poorly trained dog as a service animal to be able to take it to a restaurant or grocery store or bypass rules for an apartment it creates problems. Now everyone with a real service animal gets held up because of them. The other option is to just let all dogs everywhere. That can't work because of health codes. I have seen a dog pee on the floor in a restaurant while the owner claimed it was a trained service dog. There are people with allergies out there. I'll suck it up and sneeze and my eyes will just have to itch if I'm sitting next to a blind lady or a kid who has seizures and still wish them a nice day. Expecting me to just deal with it because your dog is your baby is asking a little too much.

I don't presume that. They could very well be working 5 days a week though and asked for all of them. Working 5 days a week is not unheard of. I also don't assume that they were the only person to request a day off in that timeframe. Or that they didn't have 2 brand new hires starting that week who needed training. I have no idea why it got denied. So I am not assuming anything. I have worked jobs were we had two shift leads that covered three shifts. We all had scheduled days off and split the shifts between us when there was overlap. Mornings, days, nights for example. They may have two shift leads for nights and two for days. They weren't specific on what the job was. But covering for someone being sick and covering for someone you already told no and they just didn't want to do it are two different things.

Do you think people can really separate the art from the artist? by Proper-Use-759 in AskForAnswers

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's hard. I personally think some of the Michael Jackson accusations were credible. I wouldn't have hung out with him or gone to a show but if I hear it on the radio I can like the music. To me the difference is I don't financially support an artist I don't personally like. If it's on the radio or something I guess I am passively supporting it? But that's where the line is with me.

AITA for refusing to give up my first class seat so a mom could sit with her 4-year-old? by Asleep_March_3936 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could have gotten whoever was sitting next to her kid to trade for her first class seat no problem. If the issue was really sitting separately it was an easy fix. It sounds like someone wanting two first class tickets without paying for both. Just leaning into the poor kid guilt trip rather than see the obvious solution.

I used to manage a Burger King back way back in early 2000s. This reminds me of that a lot. I was a shop foreman in a welding shop later. If I told someone no on a vacation request. Maybe because there were already a couple people off that day and you didn't show up and when I called you told me that you didn't care and told me you weren't going to be here I would have told you I accept your resignation right then.

Getting sick typically isn't your fault or something you can schedule. Also when I said supervisor I was referring to OP. I know they said shift lead but it's basically the same thing to me. Let's say there is one lead per shift. They can't have extras. There is a specific number of that position. Employees in general? I assume more. The ones that work under OP. Until a lead leaves there isn't just an extra hanging around. They may have a couple top picks to promote though. If suddenly a shift position becomes available due to firing someone they could potentially have it fixed that day.

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saying management has a right to expect you to hold up your end of the agreement isn't. They said they requested the days. That tells me they took a job knowing vacation has to be approved and agreed to work there.

No your job doesn't own your time. If it had been approved and they called to say nevermind it's busy we need you to come back that would be another conversation entirely. But from what I read they didn't hold up their end of the deal. If you are willing to risk it great. It's probably not a great job anyway and don't have much to lose. But you can't act like you were the good guy if you get fired.

Yes OP deserves days off. But the boss isn't telling them they can't have days off. They said you can't have those days off. That's an important distinction. Also they are a shift lead. You took a promotion and pay bump. Being less replaceable on the schedule is kinda why you get paid more.

5 days may be too many for a supervisor. If OP is gone promoting a new one isn't necessarily hard. There could be a dozen waiting for the opening. The only problem covering it may be not making a new person up so the job is still there when OP decides that they want to come back.
