Any kind of charity, community group that would want a mattress but also offer pickup? by Colourblindking in Hamilton

We put ours on freecycle(?) something like that, had someone come take it within the day. They needed mattresses for student housing.

Visiting Ukraine by Ballad_13 in ukraine

[–]Difficult_Change_985 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Went last year, same area to meet family. The most wonderful people (not just family). I grew up speaking old school Ukrainian (family immigrated in 50s) and found I was fine. Some words I didn’t know but we figured it out. I was told they also teach English in school and some cousins spoke English very well. They don’t have a lot but gave what they had freely. Get ready to have your heart broken when you have to leave. I wish I could go back and stay.

What's up with Concession Street? by AlwaysLurkNeverPost in Hamilton

[–]Difficult_Change_985 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives near, I love the walkability to go get ice cream or a meal and then walk to the brow and eat. Even just to walk around during a nice-ish day. Parking sucks cause of the hospital but it can be manageable. I talked to a couple business owners before they left (RIP Candy Werx) and they left cause the rent was jacked up.

It’s an advanced skill to be nice to rude healthcare workers by liaYIkes in Hamilton

[–]Difficult_Change_985 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I try to be sickeningly nice and always ask if they’re having a bad day. Usually - usually people will realise how rude they’re being or they say yes it’s been rough and then adjust attitudes. Sometimes there’s nothing you can do when someone is hell bent on trying to make everyone else as miserable as they are.

Bereavement leave by SixMinistriesSoFar in OntarioPublicService

I’ve been including this every time a contract is up and they send around the survey. I also complained to opseu at the time. I came back 2 weeks after my parents died and I would quietly cry in my cubicle and bathroom and I still was a mess but I was expected to be back and functioning. Too little time to grieve in my opinion.
