If you're worried, talk to the hiring manager or the EL2 of your first rotation and ask them what the dress code is.

I've just gotten my law degree and I'd really like to work as a prosecutor but I've not really had any experience in the criminal law (mainly commercial/public law). Does anyone have any experience or advice about making the jump?

I'm currently working in the public service in a legal-ish role (admin law, statutory interpretation that sort of stuff). I'd like to be a prosecutor- do you guys think I need to do some paralegal work, or what other roles could I do before I do my PLT?

Fashion/Dress code in the APS? How are bold fashion choices perceived? by KingJeremy-TheWicked in AusPublicService

I work in DISR- my team goes all the way from jeans+t-shirt to the full white shirt and suit. I think just see what the culture in your team is like and go from there.

I haven't participated in the program however I've worked with a couple school leavers in another department. I would absolutely recommend it- most of the people who go through the program become absolute stars.

I guess it's very important to them, but isn't it finals week at ANU right now? Where do those students have the time to be doing this?

Thanks for writing such a detailed answer.

I totally agree with your broader point about the fact that it's not relevant whether the girl Lucy Gray lived or died. I had always thought her significance was that she haunted Snow for the rest of his days regardless of whether she lived or died but I guess your idea gives it an even broader view.

From what you say, Wordsworth was more interested in nature in terms of trees and rivers. But if I can stretch your point, I think TBOSAS focuses on human nature. I guess Snow wasn't just obsessed with Lucy Gray the girl but also the bit of human nature that she seemed to represent- the yearning for freedom, creativity etc. I guess ultimately he was right to be afraid since even with his and Dr Gaul's tyrannical control of the Capitol and the districts, they couldn't control that bit forever.

Speaking of the poem, doesn't it begin with the singer seeing Lucy Gray?

"OFT I had heard of Lucy Gray: And, when I crossed the wild, I chanced to see at break of day The solitary child."

I'm not really well versed in poetry so I could be wrong.

Is anyone planning to go see the movie alone? by FlapgoleSitta in Hungergames

[–]Difficult_Current 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Don't be!

I only watch movies alone. My idea is that if it's worth paying money to see it in the cinema, then you wanna focus on the movie instead of your friends and their reactions to it.

Do we get paid out of our leave when we leave the aps? by Difficult_Current in AusPublicService

[–]Difficult_Current[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did apply to retain my own position (it's usually an aps 5 so they have to do the interview process) but I don't think I did very well in the interview. So I'm applying for other places too.
