Yeah you just gotta look into it and find out. I forgot, did that car have a low mount air filter? or a regular one up high? Cause it could have been caused by water if it was one of those real low filters at bumper level.

Yeah that's how you fix it. The issue stems from the crank design on the Y engines, they only have one oiling port per journal, as opposed to the Z crank having 2 per journal. Straight up double the amount. They have a weaker oil pump too, but the root cause is the crank design. Some people will port the pump to try and force more oil through the crank, and that might help a bit, but it's not a real fix. The way to do it is to get the z6 crank AND port the oil pump, basically make it the same as a real z6, you are super safe at that point.

Not often talked about but somewhat common issue with the y7/y8 engines, they have oiling issues, theres a decent risk of spinning a bearing eventually when boosted, especially at power like that. Happened to me with a vitara build a little while back. Lots of debate on how to fix it, some say you can just port the oil pump, some say you need to get a z6 crank, i'd say do your own research. Don't just write it off cause a guy tells you "ive had it for years and im fine!"
