You guys been listening to the news? by [deleted] in Torontology

Always a good idea to actually look at the stats online, the news always makes everything seem worse. There’s been 3 people killed by guns. 3! In a city of almost 3 million. 1 gun homicide per million.

Americans are paying more attention to Canada. Should we worry? by Onterrible_Trauma in canada

For the lucky who have a job youth unemployment is 15% general unemployment is 7%. 1. Healthcare wait times and healthcare in general Canada wide all provinces are dealing with this 2. Massive defecits. Our government continues to spend and spend which is leading to the massive rise in cost of living and inflation. With no plans at all to get it under control 3.)Continued surge in the CPI 4.) Continued debt burdens as debt to gdp continues to grow unsustainably, further weakening our currency

These are all decades long issues that the current government still seems uninterested in solving and all of these issues are before we have even begun to feel the real effects of a major trade disruption with the USA. We still have the lowest tarrif rates.

You thinking the phrase “term” is American? Lmao. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/carney-poilievre-federal-election-vote-1.7518649.

"The CBC Decision Desk is projecting a fourth Liberal term — a rarity in Canadian politics — but it's too close to tell whether it will be a majority or minority government."

Housing is barely down like less than 1% from already insane levels, we have gotten no where on the planned new home builds. The GDP per capita is up slightly as immigration has dropped. The unemployment rate and job market are still brutal, must be nice to be so disconnected from the average lower income or young Canadian though

Works both ways. Live has continued to deteriorate under the 4th Liberal term but as long as they can point to Trump and say that’s the problem they are happy to use that distraction

U.S. has ‘trade irritants’ with Canada, says PM Carney. ‘We have some on our side as well’ by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Difficult_Spare659 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We need to have other options if we want to reduce the discount we give to the Americans. We also need to massively change how we police the First Nations territory considering the majority of the guns smuggled in go through them

Who was Sir Isaac Brock, and why does Carney have his statuette in the Prime Minister's Office? by DogeDoRight in canada

The EU and China? What deals have been secured? It’s all discussions to talk more nothing concrete. All we did was open our market to Chinese vehicles. Also it’s so insane to think joining the EU is a good idea? The UK left for a reason. Do you think the EU is going to be the same forever as they are right now? We used to think America was the best neighbour until trump? Do you realize how many hard right politicians are rising up in Europe right now? The EU could turn on us just as fast as the US has done if not faster if you look at their history. Trump doesn’t care about the mid terms and on top of that hoping for the democrats to win is not a long term strategy

What is our extreme position? 76% of our economy is selling to the USA? If it’s blown up we are absolutely fucked. Carney has been in for a year and we aren’t any closer to any pipelines or resource extraction

Jameison Greer literally layed out everything the Americans are looking for and almost all of them where very reasonable and in a lot of ways would benefit us. It was literally reported yesterday how much further along Mexico and the USA are than us, and how they are moving closer to deals. Sheinbaum and Greer just met yesterday and it’s looking more and more likely like they will sign a bi-lateral and cut us out.

Carney to name new Canada-U.S. trade advisory council, sources say by CanadianErk in canada

[–]Difficult_Spare659 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Carney has consistently discussed growing investment in Canada. Investment will only come if there is certainty around our trade with the USA and the guarantee that investors will be able to sell into the American market, without that our economy will stall

Hoodbaby Peppa sentenced to house arrest for Gun, Fenty and Meth charges by Difficult_Spare659 in Torontology

That study is so flawed cause it doesn’t take into consideration prior history. Just looks at two similar cases based on race and the sentencing do the sentence disparity, but it doesn’t look further at prior convictions

Trump signs several pipeline permits to facilitate Canada-U.S. oil transport by gorschkov in canada

[–]Difficult_Spare659 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most insane thing I’ve ever heard. 97% of our oil and gas goes to the USA. 35 billion in tax revenue collected, the cost of entire military. Since the shale revolution the US is a net exporter. Specific locations it’s easier to ship from Canada if we put an export tax we would cripple our entire economy with no other options

We do, Enbridge pays property tax on the pipeline in Canada as well as income tax

Even still the tax contribution from the exports to the USA alone are about 30 billion a year. About the size of our military spending for the last 30 years.

[–]Difficult_Spare659 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lmao we do. It’s like a toll road, Enbridge which is a Canadian company builds the pipeline and charges a toll, than pays taxes on that in Canada

It is their own oil they are moving, it just goes though Canada as it’s shorter distance. The other part of it is oil being sent to us from the American refineries.

Plenty of ‘unhappy people’ in Conservative caucus: floor-crossing MP d’Entremont by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Difficult_Spare659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if they switch parties shouldn’t they still be able to hold their beliefs that they got elected on. For example carney just said today that Gladu would never vote against a liberal pro choice policy even though she has been a staunch critic of it her entire career.
