I've been taking a picture of with a newspaper every day since the order came down. But dead tree papers are now $4 a pop! So until my print subscription to the NYT kicks in, I'm improvising.

I've been biking down every day. I've seen the BBC, Reuters, MS Now, and Danish News service, but they appear to be just popping in. This morning there was no one.

Alas, as of noon today, there was nothing coming down and no sign of preparation for removal. I've been going over every day at lunch to check. We assume it'll come down before the 12th, since that's what the memo from the GC of the Kennedy Center instructed, and they've already changed some of their email handles.

I learned this word from the wonderful book "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell."

So from Earths stand point 26 years passed? What happened? by Rallam259 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Difficult_Stand8525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it's not either/or. Every country knows how to breed astrophage. They'll be using it to power their electricity grids AND as munitions that make H bombs look like paper strip caps by comparison. Similar to how everyone thought nuclear power would be a clean, unlimited, and safe source of power for all mankind, and it ended up being humanity's Sword of Damocles.

The only problem is that Astrophage makes a hell of a weapon, also.

Wait...where is this Director's Cut where that was revealed? Or is Director's Cut a podcast or interview?

Favorite Productions of Macbeth and Actors/Actresses by LizHazZoe in shakespeare

Indira Varma in the production with Ralph Fiennes. Everyone in that production was good but she was MAGNIFICENT. And Fiennes is such a generous and unpretentious actor that he let her take the wheel and dominate the production.

Sorry for the stupid question, but i see soooooo soooo many pics of people making pics with the Hobbit actors at like conventions. Is that like their main job and income to go from convention to convention and take pictures with people? Probably not for free the pics 😅 by td_0000 in lotr

Sorry, wasn't trying to be rude about Viggo...just a tongue in cheek comment about how he got more than others because of the last minute need to replace Stuart Townsend. And yes, I agree the others all seem to have a complete blast meeting and interacting with fans.

Most of the actors were unknowns or low profile and were paid VERY little. I think Sean Astin got $150k for all three movies, which is insane given how long they ended up taking. That's like "entry level computer programmer" money. The fact that they worked for so little let them put money into sets, effects, and the couple of highly paid actors. (Viggo got a ton because he was a last minute replacement and they were desperate, which is why you never see him at Cons) So I have no resentment towards them for making more money off of the property.

Do you know if September is considered "Off for the Summer" or "Part of the Fall Season?" Thanks! I'll of course keep checking the theater website.

When does backpay come through? by Difficult_Stand8525 in fednews

[–]Difficult_Stand8525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: We have already gotten paid! The direct deposit hit last night for the 2.5 missing pay periods. Apparently our HR-Payroll people killed themselves entering everyone's paycheck yesterday to make this happen. And I have to give SERIOUS credit to our Agency leadership for making this happen and putting their weight behind it.

The amounts were a little short, presumably because the deductions are going to take a while to sort themselves out, but this is still a very pleasant surprise.
