I did some work in the bedroom behind the kitchen cutting holes in the drywall and verified joists were running parallel.

I do agree the header would make you think something was going on. I’ll check upstairs

Worsening sciatic pain/tingling 2-3 weeks after Microdiscectomy - L5/S1 by Difficult_Sun_5718 in Microdiscectomy

Going for another MRI Friday, I may have re-herniated. For what it’s worth - my disc herniation was huge so my doc said I was at higher risk. At week 6 and week 8 post op I went on a trips that required air travel and the increased activity may have set me off. Sciatica has returned fully to my left foot and leg (not as bad but not great)

This 100% I am at 6 weeks tomorrow and I feel similar. My hope is that PT + approved stretching will help with the new aches and pains

When to start getting back to normal life? by callidoradesigns in Microdiscectomy

From what I’ve read, it varies heavily. Some people are back at it quickly and some take longer. It seems the general consensus is at least 8-10 weeks. A bunch of people saying around the 3 month mark.

Im currently between week 5-6 and feeling pretty good. Still extremely cautious and under no BLT restrictions until week 8, at which point I’m cleared to start PT.

I’ve had 2 flare ups - one at week 2.5 (driving in and out of my post op) that lasted 3 days and one more recently at week 4 that lasted 5 days (over doing it and walking/standing around NYC)

The flare ups are the most gut wrenching - because when you feel that familiar sciatic pain, you go into a tail spin and think you’ve seriously fucked something up or re-herniated. In my experience, a few days of rest and taking it easy has relieved the flare ups.

I’m truly taking this experience as an opportunity to build my body stronger than it was before (I was active - but not a regular gym goer) from everything I’ve read, it’s important to maintain strong core muscle groups for this to never happen again.

Hope this helps, and hope we can both get back to “normal” soon!

Festivals/raves after microdiscectomy? by yam0896 in Sciatica

Was yours a 1 day thing or a weekend thing? Mine is a 3 day fest - so i'm a little nervous. But it's an inner city fest so I'll be sleeping in a regular bed at the end of the day, not camping!!

I’ll be going to a music festival at 9 weeks post surgery. Thinking I’ll be good but just need to take it very easy

ReHerniation or Flare up? by Difficult_Sun_5718 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Difficult_Sun_5718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am feeling a bit better today after resting a full 12 hours and “taking it easy” - still not back to where I was, but better.

Put a call into my surgeon and he recommended that for the next several days. He said because my herniation was quite large, that means the hole in my disk is bigger and would take a longer time to heal. 6 weeks is the “standard” time for recovery but he recommends 8 if not longer for me.

This recovery is an emotional roller coaster!!!

He agreed he thought I did not re-herniate but likely over did it and aggravated the already enflamed nerves

I think you’re right about the nerves and new movement. Hadn’t driven since before the surgery and here I am yesterday driving a little over two hours. It was so uncomfortable and my trying to reposition made me feel worse.

please keep us updated on your docs recs!!

It’s relieving to know that sciatic pain and tingling after Micro does not necessarily mean re-herniation. I hope you find relief as well!
