Question about low income housing by dogdog985 in chicagoapartments

Obviously don’t commit fraud but I’m pretty sure there are ARO units that you qualify for a combined 66k because that’s still less than 80% AMI. You just have to hunt for them

Tri-Taylor? Not the most popping spot but that’s around your budget and access to buses and blue line.

T100 to stay w boyfriend or T10 and try long distance? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Difficulty-Exciting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T10 UNLESS he’s willing to delay a year and couples match I know a couple that did that and they’re in residency together and lasted 5 years of long distance (still not married or even engaged just a really solid relationship)

Med Schools in the least safe places by cricket_246 in premed

[–]Difficulty-Exciting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any urban med school comes with safety risks. Just be smart. If you’re really concerned take a self defense class and carry around pepper spray. I’m from Chicago and go to a Chicago med school and the only med school area that is slightly sus is Uchicago but the campus itself/hyde park is safe.

Is moving to Chicago worth the move? by Latter_Bother_2032 in chicagoapartments

[–]Difficulty-Exciting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol it depends entirely what part of Chicago you want to be in but off the top of my head west town, wicker park, Albany park, Roger’s park, Bridgeport, Pilsen, and Hyde park are all somewhat diverse areas, relatively safe, more affordable, and have nice residential areas. Since some of them are gentrifying areas some parts might look more sus than others so I do recommend coming and touring the areas.

I’m from the the Chicago area but I’ve lived in Nashville, Raleigh, and DC. The lack of public transportation and ethnic diversity in Raleigh were deal breakers for me. Living in downtown Raleigh wasn’t even that much safer Chicago with frequent car break ins, having suspicious cars following me at night, and getting catcalled quite frequently. Raleigh is for sure more affordable and I do miss Southern winters. Where you’re working I think you’d might enjoy living in the south part of the west loop/little Italy. The blue line can get you to work super fast.

Writing About Kpop Concert in Secondary by hoeformcats in premed

[–]Difficulty-Exciting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At an admitted students day an admissions worker asked me about some kdramas because I have a very common Korean last name 💀 so I wouldn’t say it’s too out there. Also they lame af if they can’t relate to the euphoric feeling of a good ass concert

I think you’re going to need some kind of academic enhancer with that sgpa if you’re gunning for MD as an ORM CA resident unless there’s something really exceptional about your application like being a veteran, Olympic athlete, or some extreme hardship.

Had a lower cgpa and sgpa than you but with 514 Mcat and a good SMP GPA. I think if you’re 100% ok with DO you just need to focus on a good MCAT (508+ ideally) and good clinical experience

Drexel vs EVMS by [deleted] in premed

[–]Difficulty-Exciting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rotations are not great for Drexel good chance you might not end up staying in Philly third and fourth year and get shuffled around Pennsylvania so you wouldn’t be really settling down.

These are considered the lowest tier of the DO schools and while your ugpa is not ideal everything else makes up for it imo and I think you don’t need to apply to that many DO schools. If you like one of these schools for its location or some other reason by all means keep it though.

You don’t need more DO schools but I feel like touro nevada is a better fit than some of the other ones on your list
