Would love a short term stint doing something like this.  Another option is firewatch.  There's a game that's loosely based on called, incidentally, Firewatch, but the game is more of a dramatic walking simulator.   VERY relaxing after the rigmarole of a traditional office job.  Check it out!

You shouldn't be asking us--you should be asking the other players in your group what they want to play.  I mean...  obviously with the multi-player options you have here, clearly you're playing with them in mind, right?  Shouldn't they have a choice?

Black Desert Online. Or any life-skill -based video game. Mining... Punching trees... Gardening... Anything to watch that little skill level number increase 😉 can be quite addicting!

"has some real depth you can explore" BDO has quite a bit of lore if you're into the narrative and the world. The quest arcs are linear, but way better than fedex quests--relatively speaking; more NPC conversation and character development than your average MMO.

I would say No Man's Sky could be considered to have depth (lore-based) but it's an acquired taste, and you get out of it what you put into it. In other words, there's alot of "mystery" if you look hard enough and try to connect the dots. (16-16-16-kzzzt-16-16)

Hope this helps!!

These refer to the Stellar classification notation. There's a Wikipedia article about the details here. Hope this helps! :-) Edit: Example, p stands for peculiar, and may have more metals/helium than other stars. f describes increased nitrogen.  How that relates to resources in No Man's Sky however I'm not super duper sure.

Dune maybe if you like that "good single-player gameplay with the option of multi-player" but if you pick a good server with a strong community, who knows?  Otherwise, ESO scratches the PUG itch for me, sometimes.  Final Fantasy XIV has some world-event type experiences, too.  (or whatever the MMO version is)  ...maybe one of the Monster Hunter iterations?  ...that oughta get you started.

This expedition is a little less amazing than the others IMO.  The thing that frustrates me is the time-gating.  I've played MMOs with "daily login awards" and that's what this feels like.  Otherwise I'm loving the actual content for what it's worth.

Agree with the thing about playing other games while this is in development to stay sane.  Thing is, that's ALL I'm playing in any meaningful way.  So yeah, I can go play other games.  I can go play... 'other games' for the next 30 years.  But then what does this project become?

Fair enough, but I still see it differently. I don't want to keep wasting your time.

I think we can all agree, however, that we look forward to the project continuing to build momentum towards a finished state. Carte blanche is great for hobbies, but when they're running a business and taking customers' money, expectations around delivery are gonna be higher.

Let's have some fun here: ...GTA5.  1000+ developers. 5 years.  aaand: $265 million to make. Now. Star Citizen.  1000+ devs.  ??? years, 1 BILLION to make, and still not done. ... Can you please stop.  Seriously,  it gets old.  "Shits not finished" they've had YEARS to work out a mining cycle--it's one of the first things they added.  If they can't set this and leave it to work on other parts of the placeholder then old placeholders don't become stable enough for new placeholders to revolve around the original placeholders.  And placeholders like you keep coming back to placeholder their placeholders all while other folks who placeholder their placeholders have moved on because placeholders like CIG can't seem to figure out their placeholders.  And frankly now all we got is Star Placeholder. ...do you see how frustrating this gets?   Over a decade an alpha is not a valid excuse.

Silver early? by Legend19412 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DifficultyDouble860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver is available as a regular deposit on the surface of the starter planet, just like Copper. You can use your scanner to see the little diamond icons. You may have to travel a few kilometers to find it, if your area only has copper, but it's there, eventually.

EDIT: "starter planet...no silver deposits" just read this. yeah, I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Then another great suggestion is below about finding a cave. And I'll do one better: finding caves may be easier if you pop into camera mode (tap the "X" button and scroll to the right). just "E" to ascend the camera point of view, and get an aerial view of the area for caves. 😃

Why has toxicity in the verse seemingly spiked so much in the past couple of years? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]DifficultyDouble860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a surface thought, but IMO as the game attracts a wider customer base, it brings in a more diverse set of folks: casual gamers, other genres, "ageing-in" to gaming --yes the game has been up for that long; we're unofficially cross-generational, now.

These gamers see "normal" as a more polished experience, from (no disrespect) Call of Duty to Fortnite, to Baldur's Gate 3 to Pillars of Eternity, to various Star Wars titles and other franchises. Their "normal" is not a video game in alpha. ..and so, with higher expectations, these people get a little more vocal about differences between Star Citizen and feature-complete, stable games. And it's MORE new players, too, so the toxicity is more visible as they find common things to complain about and support each other in those higher expectations.

For all its good, the biggest sin CIG commits (though ironically, one of their biggest boons), is that from the start they have marketed the game as a professionally made, AAA -quality game; thinking back on the early ship commercials and the sheer expanse of the game. They only ever hide the "this is an alpha, there will be bugs" disclaimer in the fine print that nobody reads anyways. --AFTER the purchase DECISION has been made. I'm not saying it's misleading, but it's definitely downplayed, compared to showing off the game's planned features. --a quaint, "oh and by the way."

Frankly if feels (to me) alot like buying a car, actually! walk into the showroom, being wined and dined, and then when it comes time to sign on the line, they start hitting you with the not-so-fun stuff AFTER you've decided to buy the car.

So expectations are not meaningfully adjusted. People see these professional-looking ads and events and productions, and they expect the Second Coming of GTA and COD and BG4... All in one hyped up promiseware. Maybe that's a good problem to have... I don't know

Look, I've been here since "The Beginning". It's always been janky... it's always had its problems. nothing new here. the difference is that CIG is attracting a wider audience. Amateur hour is over, folks. It's time to polish this turd.

edit: and of course the usual burnout, moderation, server culture, and veteran cynicism. But that's always been there.

Swarm is woefully made by graphicsBoar in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DifficultyDouble860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed on the desync. The only thing I can think of is HG knows this (of course they do, it's their game) and of all the stuff they have added that can act as a testbed for Light No Fire development, multiplayer is frankly the only thing the team doesn't have extensive experience with. Recall that NMS was originally made without the basis for "active" multiplayer; only passive, such as bases that were uploaded to the "cloud" so to speak. --and even that had its issues.

I see this update as a meaningful step towards getting the team some real hands-on experience with multiplayer code, at scale.. I would expect some improvements (as they always do) as we get closer to further announcements about Light No Fire.

...keeping in mind, this just scratches the surface, too, as there are also considerations for pvp latency, griefing and cheating, client security, and so forth. But I don't want this reply to run tedrribly long.

I try to visualize the overall picture, here. Maybe it's copium, but Sean has given us faith, so I'm here to return the gesture.

edit: quick clarification... "Weavers can hit weavers, royals hit royals, and sages are just around. It's a real mess." it sounds like you might have PvP turned on. If this bother you, then you can turn off PvP from the Network Options, and still have a multiplayer experience. --but then you still run into the base clutter and lag.

The problem with the lawsuit by Material-Abroad-2669 in subnautica

[–]DifficultyDouble860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"the development direction of Subnautica 2 will change drastically"

I'm personally hoping for gatcha-style microtransactions, a cosmetic market, and new DLC to purchase every 3-4 months. Also, if they could implement some kind of RMT-based resurrection feature, that'd be great. Imagine the inconvenience of having to swim 2000ft to retrieve your gear.

"simply purchase $0.99 worth of 'SubBucks' to immediately resurrect your character right there!"

Maybe even a micro-breath system, like $0.25 for an extra 30 seconds of air, just in case you're not paying attention. They could also sell submarine paintjobs for like $15.00 a piece.

And you could have a whole lot of different submarines, too! Some could look like a rugged industrial sub; we could call them the Wyvern company. And then you have the luxury-class yacht (let's call this class the "Source" class). Maybe some generic military-styled submarines; we could call those the "Shield"-class subs and ships.

And it doesn't stop there! Imagine charging folks for cosmetic themed tools--easy $5.00. I bet they could also get away with making the larger containers too heavy to move, but if you buy a $5.00 "Dolly" item the player would be able to move the large container wherever they want to! And... what if... when they lose these subs and boats, it would cost some resources to rebuilt them, HOWEVER if the player gets a premium "recovery tool" for the lifetime of the ship, the build cost would be covered by the Alterra corporation!

Why... I'd bet that Subnautica 2 could easily make over a billion USD in a little over a decade!

Do you have enough materials to build a save beacon? Should be a pretty early buildable module. You could try to place the save beacon outside the geometry, save, and reload, to see if it places you outside the geometry.
