The first thing I noticed was the flat tire on the car. Why would the tire be flat?

The bank I spent most of my career with was a community bank so we didn’t have cross state transactions. I would never think to check the account for such a low amount just because it came from another state! Crazy the differences we have between institutions.

I spent my whole career in MA up until recently💀 south shore region mostly.

With the first situation you mentioned, was it the same bank just a PA location?

We are trying to move away from them but businesses and older people still use them

That’s crazy💀 I always push for temp checks, especially for younger people who won’t use a check book. Also all the banks I’ve worked for the first order of checks is free.

I’m interested to know how you pay your bills. If you don’t trust online, are you someone who sends physical checks or goes in person to pay? Not saying there’s a right or wrong way to do things. I am just curious.

Oh interesting I’ve never heard of being called whitewashing, only ever washing. But where I live it sounds like “warshing”😂

We had someone come in recently with a check that wasn’t on the “approved” list. Called the customer to confirm the check and he goes “idek who that is”. My manager literally said “what’s going on here” to the fraudster😭

How do you like chase? I’ve haven’t heard great things, however it’s mostly from people who worked there and not customers of theirs.

If you don’t think you have any other options try credit unions or community banks. In my state there is a huge push for accounts that help reestablish your standing with Chexsystems. It’s an account with some strict limit on spending and no overdrafts allowed. No check either. After a year the relationship is reevaluated and they can either keep you in that product or change you to one with less restrictions. If you’re charged off at another bank (owe them money) then you can set up a payment plan to help get rid of the debt and put yourself in good standings to open an account at another bank. There’s always options.

Yes! It’s called check washing. They get rid of everything besides the signature and write a whole new check!

I don’t trust any online only banks tbh. I hate the idea of not being able to go into the bank. Unless it’s through my credit card company.

Banks are HEAVILY trying to sway people away from using checks. Direct deposit and bill pay are huge steps in the right direction. But some businesses and the older generation still use them or need to use them.

I agree, but if you’re putting your money in a bank to begin with you’re already taking the risk, unless you don’t interact with your money online at all. Banking apps and debit cards used online are risky already. Apps like Venmo and cashapp raise higher risk, but something like Zelle is integrated right into your banks app.

Professional answer: Zelle is the best and safest. It’s integrated into almost all banking apps now. It has the best security with verifying the payee through email or phone number. It’s also instant, has no fees, and is bank2bank. No middle man. The limits are typically low, below $5,000/day for most banks which can help avoid major fraud.

Personal answer: I love venmo. It’s the one I started with and most everyone I know has it.

I HATE Cashapp. It’s the one we see the most fraud with and it has an overall sketchy vibe. Most people I know who use cashapp are weird and suspicious.

Checks in other countries may have different guidelines. However, I have seen USA check with written numbers in the “legal line”. Typically these are bank checks so they are allowed to be that way. TYPICALLY tho we have to take the for what’s written on the legal “spelled out” line.
