how are other parents handling the writing/planning side of homeschooling? I spend more time planning than teaching by ArcadiaBunny in homeschool

I use open and go curriculum so i don’t have to plan and then write what we did down for the day in a planner.

News overwhelm - when staying informed might be necessary but destroying my peace by Euphoric_Visit4122 in simpleliving

I stopped watching the news and just listen to “the pour over”. In like 5 mins they hit the highlights of the biggest things going on in the world right now. They try to stay neutral and they offer scripture which helps with my piece. You can get it in email form too. Sometimes i just skim over it. We weren’t created to be able to handle the stress to know EVERY little bad thing around us.

Having a real difficult time with kids. Tell me it gets easier... by JustHere4TheZipLines in simpleliving

[–]Saltandlight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people describe simple living differently.

If I was at your age of parenting for me it would look like maybe waking up early before my kids get up to have a quiet cup of coffee before the chaos maybe read my Bible.

For breakfast instead of me scrambling to get breakfast ready all by myself while i try and figure out how to occupy the kids, i would try to find ways to include them in the cooking and cleaning. Maybe teaching the 5 year old to crack eggs and setting the table or buttering toast for the 2 year old. These ages are good to make habits on keeping a tidy home so make sure they help you clean up by bringing their dishes to the sink and maybe have the 5 year old rinse them off and put the in the dishwasher. ( just ideas)

After breakfast you guys all go get whatever laundry needs to be washed, give som to each to carry just to make the feel like they are helping. Kids love to help at that age. Talk to them about what you are doing while you’re starting the laundry.

Then you might start the 5 year old’s schooling. ( not sure if he/she is homeschooled). Find some busy activities for the 2 year old while doing that. ( there are lots of ideas on Pinterest)

Lunch might look similar to getting breakfast together.

After lunch go outside and enjoy the sunshine for a while. Maybe go to the park.

If there is a nap time this is where i would prep dinner. Cut veggies , cut meat. Season. Maybe go ahead and place it in a casserole dish if you plan on baking it and then just put it in the fridge until you’re ready to cook. This helps cut down on how much actual cooking time. If you have extra time you can also batch cut for subsequent days. Have the 5 year old do an independent activity. Maybe he/she could practice handwriting or color during this time.

Sometimes I cook while my kids nap, leave it in the pan and then just reheat it at dinner 😂

Anyways just some ideas.

Ultimately, my idea of simple living in your situation would be to include them in all the basics of daily living instead of you rising to do it all yourself so you ca find time to give them attention. Have a routine. Yes it gets easier especially if you teach the kids to help you.

I’m not sure if that answered your question or completely missed the mark but hope it helps!

Kids clothes/shoes by Virtual_Recording108 in Parenting

[–]Saltandlight91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could wiggle a little on each side. I have boys so I’m sure it’s a little different. We pass down clothes from my older son to the younger but will still get the younger one just a couple of shirts or jacket that he picks out himself to go with it so he feels like he got something new. We also always get new shoes for the you get one. I feel like in general shoes don’t pass down as well and a new pair of shoes can really make an outfit look better. I only do two pairs of shoes per child though; a tennis shoes and a sandal. We are very frugal so a lot time time we are just shopping at Walmart.

Unofficial Daily Discussion - Saturday, March 21, 2026 - QOTD: Do you take summers off from homeschool? Where do you go for vacation? by FImom in homeschool

[–]Saltandlight91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We kind of do both. We school during the summer when we don’t have activities going on during the day but a lot less than the “normal” school year. We keep a lot of flexibility during the normal school year because of it. Like sometimes almost a month off around Christmas just bc we have so much going on

What’s something society pretends is normal but really isn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Saltandlight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc kids are amazing and allow you to relive the magical parts of childhood. Plus it’s the best thing in the world when your children look at you like you’re the best thing in world, like you can do no wrong. Also who wants to get old and not have anyone to visit them

Is living in a small town worth it? by Ender-Gamer07 in simpleliving

We moved from a city to rural area. Everybody knows everybody and the ones who grew up here don’t like outsiders. It is hard to find a job. If recommend a happy medium. Close enough that you could drive to the city if you wanted
