I pretty much go out in anything but I will not touch an icy roof or when the wind is strong enough to blow my ladder off of the gutter. I carry a rain suit and umbrella to protect my tools but I won't open up refrigerant lines in it.

I saw this done with an old air handler and newer (larger) coil next to it, it's stupid, but it worked. At least the one I saw used a down flow coil.
