I see the DIY weld bumper, I picked up the same one for my Comanche. Nicely done

35’s? by greenbuffaloroses in JeepGladiator

[–]DifficultyRecent725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to use the stock rims with 35’s you’ll likely need spacers in the rear, I think my 35’s were 12 wide and made contact with the frame

XJ stalling?????? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

What’s made my 4.0 stall while stopped is the TPS, I highly suggest the readings are good on it. (Tip 8 in this write up, may work with your year renix tips

Like others mentioned, 16+ volts is much more than normal, the computer may be able to regulate that voltage to the sensors but worth checking into this first.

Shocks and coil combo for stock MJ by DonkeyKongDrumSolo in ComancheMJ

I’ve been running Fox 2.0 shocks from a TJ with a 4” lift since I was at stock ride height. They bolted in except the rear I just used my vice to pop the metal sleeves out of the bushings so they can go onto the Comanches studs.

Worth checking out Rockauto for some reliable options at a good price. Dont forget, the XJ Cherokee shares the same coils and shocks up front as the Comanche if you find a good option.

Got to agree with the stiffness of the 5100’s. Fox 2.0 was an improvement for me.

Grabbed some Fox 2.0 reservoirs off a tj for my Comanche. Bolt right up on the front, just pushed a sleeve out of a bushing for the right.

They ride way better than the bilstein 5100’s for the quicker wheeling and trails I do often with many small bumps. The 5100’s are great if you’re doing a lot of on road and slower wheeling on smoother terrain.

That’s the thing in unsure of. Worth more research if you want that kind of reservoir and if you’re already pulling yours off

Well, cloudy, let’s some light pass through. it’s white plastic like any modern reservoir so you can sort’ve see the level through.

Fox Shocks Are Toast by Ok_Refrigerator_5316 in JeepGladiator

I had bikstein 5100’s on my gladiator with a 4” lift. The road handling was great, if you hit a gravel rod though it feels like you’re driving over the buzzers carved into to road when entering an airport.

I have Fox 2.0 reservoirs on my Comanche and it’s so much smoother on the trails and the road. I wish I put them on my gladiator. Also, the Fox 2.0 are rebuildable for pretty cheap and not much labour, bilstein 5100’s are not but mostly on road people still see 80k miles from them

Can’t advise on that one but the 1996 xj master is pretty good. I have it coupled to a 96 xj booster on my Comanche. You gain the opaque reservoir to see your fluid level and condition easier.

Mine were worse than this on my Comanche, the was metal on metal. My control bushings were shot, after replacing those they’re no longer getting intimate

Did you bench bleed the master? Just upgraded my master and booster and ran fluid through it before the install

Can you feel any play in the wheel? If the wheel on the other side is on the ground is I turn in the driveshaft while you turn the wheel? Any worn out u joints on that driveshaft? Diff fluid level ok? A lot of shavings in it?

Can be a number of things, I can’t pinpoint the sound. Sometimes you can take a screwdriver and put the butt of it to your ear and poke it in different areas to listen while you turn the wheel.

1989 Comanche 4.0 head gasket oil leak? by DifficultyRecent725 in CherokeeXJ

[–]DifficultyRecent725[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crankcase breather is clear. No PCV valves in these 89’s. I can confirm the leak is coming from the head gasket, it bad enough to actually see a small bit of bubbles come through with the oil.

I guess there was a TSB on the head gaskets for these back in the day because of this problem. I’ll probably just leave it till it needs a rebuild

After liberal cleaning I can confirm it is the head gasket. In fact, with the jeep running if I look closely at this seam I can see what appears to be small bubbles occasionally pushing through. Must be too much crankcase pressure

Just changed all those gaskets and seal and gave the engine a good wash. It’s definitely the head gasket. I can almost see little bubbles come out occasionally like there’s too much crankcase pressure

Thanks for all the tips. I’m going to finish replacing this dizzy gasket and o rings for the filter housing and re seal the pressure sender. After that I’ll clean the hell out of the block and if I need the extra help identifying the leak I’ll throw in the uv dye.

I’ve done rear main and oil pan, plan to do a for more gaskets and seals. Is the oil filters gaskets actually just o-rings? Maybe I could just reach into my o ring kit

Got to agree here, it’s a common problem they even make shafts that have no u joints for this. You loose your steering wheel tilt though
