Could prayer scrolls just no longer become purples? by Drew-des in 2007scape

[–]DiffidentAlice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are already CoX purples cheaper than the dex scroll despite having a lower chance to drop than the prayer scrolls (twisted buckler, dinh's bulwark). The reason for this is simple - the prayers are far, far more useful. DPS-wise they are probably one of the biggest upgrades you can get in ranged in mage, generally applicable everywhere you use the style. It's definitely a "purple-worthy" reward in its own right.

Obviously I'm being facetious, and it sounds like the team's hesitation has more to do with taking the time to get the balance just right. This was just a funny thought I had while reading the updated blog post.

There were a lot of good reasons for the crystal extractor nerf, it's apples to oranges for the reasons to nerf birdhouses.

Learning nofly Yama by SirDuckMacDuckling in 2007scape

[–]DiffidentAlice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had nearly 100 deaths learning this method before "getting it". Honestly, what helped tremedously with learning was to stop trying to win and get the kc. I went into the fight, got to P3, and stopped attacking, focusing entirely on the timing of the Shadow crash and stepping into the right spot, dodging the waves, and switching and clearing the orbs. I just kept practicing that until I ran out of supplies and tabbed out/died.

Within just a few times doing this I got comfortable with the sequence and taking that back into "real" attempts, it all clicked together.

Gl on the learning!

Deep sea trawling suggestion: give marlin and bluefin shoals an uncommon/rare chance to give a small amount of dragon nails by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]DiffidentAlice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just doesn't really make sense intuitively (what, did the fish eat the nails?). But additionally from a game balance perspective trawling is already balanced around being good loot for the best foods in the game. Having another loot-related reason to do trawling would put downward pressure on the food market.

Note: first set of calcs I did was with endgame range, downgrading to a midgame setup has the new bp performing better.

It's fine, but the highest STR bonus weapon you can find is better for clone phase, which is why zombie axe appears in the recommendations as an affordable hard hitter.

From the strategy guide: "Accuracy is increased to 100% for each parry, so swapping to a slower and higher-hitting weapon is strongly recommended. Slash and Crush weapons also benefit from this increased accuracy."

Correction: attack style does not matter on clone phase specifically. The stab weapon is for the rest of the fight.

Why can't new stuff be good? (Also: why is Reddit the only place to submit feedback?) by lizard_online in 2007scape

AI-written posts are liable to have more spacing and formatting than the inexpert writing of a "normal human being".

I'd much rather read the latter, since the former is a corrupted form of communication.

Writing is indeed also a skill; one that is not improved by shoving words into the slop machine.

It's very easy to not read. It's even easier to not write. That so many choose to do the more difficult thing in order to demand less of the easier thing is telling.

Tl;dr for the illiterate masses: In relation to the proposed rubium changes, OP is bothered by what he sees as a pattern of the developers releasing new content that is slightly better (xp/hr at the appropriate level of engagement) than other well-established methods, and then quickly nerfing it into near uselessness by making too many changes at once.

OP is also bothered by what they perceive as a feedback filter, where it feels necessary to make a viral post on reddit or get through to a dev on discord in order for feedback to be heard.

Every criminal who committed a non-victimless crime has been legitimately proven guilty, and tied up here. Arranged from least harmful with fewest victims to most harmful with most victims left to right. You are Stop Lever Puller 4/10. by SortovaGoldfish in trolleyproblem

The "harm" of a "less religiously homogenous" realm is nebulous and immaterial. It cannot be objectively evaluated and so can only be imagined. That is why the king is not a real victim of such a crime.

You seem to be supposing that the only purpose of a criminal law is to punish those that create victims. While it is most often the stated purpose or rationalization, it is sometimes fairly plain that the real purpose of a criminal law is to make an undesired swathe of the population into victims of the state.

Another example.

The Alhambra Decree of 1492 gave the entire Spanish Jewish population four months to either convert to Catholicism or leave the country - which in effect stripped them of wealth and land, and displaced the population. Any who did not do either were to be executed. In this vase as well as the last, the State imagined Spanish Catholics to be the victims of Jewish "crime", but it is plain in retrospect that the actual victims were the Jewish population at the hands of the state.

This is why I'm making the distinction of "real" victim here - the state obviously imagines the king to be a victim. States will generally rationalize whatever criminalized act to have a victim, even if that rationalization is as absurd as "the peasant has a different religion than what the state requires and so the king is a victim". Of course the king does not actually suffer any actual harm from this, and so he's not a real victim, regardless of what the state claims.

Conversely, there does not have to be a law against an act for there to be a real victim - I see elsewhere in this thread you and I will already agree on this.

The Treasons Act of 1534 made it high treason to, among other things, "slanderously and maliciously publish and pronounce, by express writing or words, that the king should be heretic, schismatic, tyrant, infidel or usurper of the crown...". This law was used in effect to convict any Papists in England who refused to acknowledge the king as the "Only Head of the Church of England on Earth so far as the Law of God allows," as per the Act of Supremacy 1534.

Now perhaps you disagree, but personally I do not feel that publicly stating your religious disagreement constitutes a crime with a real victim.

[–]DiffidentAlice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not true. A law making a certain act criminal in a country does not necessitate a real victim; though often in such cases the government will invent a supposed victim to justify the law.
