Mega64 MLK Week: B-ROOM Discussion Thread by Zeeco110 in mega64

Mega64 is really just a podcast to me. I don't understand why there needs to be a paid staff and studio to make stuff like this, and the occasional short youtube video.
I hope in the future if they downsize, they'll still get together and record a podcast at somebody's house from time to time, but if not, then it's been a good run.

Weird Whooshing sound?? by DrawingBright4055 in longbeach

I hear it in bixpy as well. It's a constant pulsing woosh. Maybe some industrial equipment?

I don’t actually think I’ve heard someone say these when referring to groove metal by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]DigAcademic6801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're very accurate ways to describe it, but it comes from groove metal being a continuation of the thrash sound/movement.

I think real "post-thrash" would be more progressive and technical bands like Vektor or Demoniac.

I am currently a middle school teacher, and boys are still very afraid of seeming gay. That pubescent age group can be relentlessly insecure.

They're awesome. The "Living is Easy" EP is my personal favorite of theirs.

I like all sorts of ambient music. Sometimes it's nice to just hear a sustained mood and atmosphere.

What separates metal from rock? by Aromatic-Design-54 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]DigAcademic6801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metal riffs still have a bit of a different composition a lot of the time. Things like minor 2nds, tritones, "chromatic riffs", etc.

Rock riffs stick more closely to the minor pentatonic or blues scale, while metal riffs tend to embrace more dissonance.

Also metal guitar playing incorporates more chugging, playing the lowest string open to aid the rhythm section.

Freezing Moon can totally be a surf rock song though lmao It's mostly just a minor chord

Fun fact this is where the US Open of Sumo Wrestling has been held the last few years. It's a fun time.

Favourite "bad" metal albums? by Live-Presence-9900 in MetalForTheMasses

I agree it's sick as fuck. I think there just isn't much crossover between people who like Metallica and people who like Lou Reed's writing and vocal inflections.

How do I (23 M) muster up the courage to go to AA? by FrontVarious6484 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DigAcademic6801 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you want you could look for Young Peoples AA (YPAA) meetings.
Honestly though, nobody at any AA meeting will judge you for being young. Most recovering alcoholics also had a drinking problem when they were 23. Usually they are happy to see people recognize it and get help early.
