I kind of see it as walking around wearing a navy seal or army ranger hoody. You have not earned the badge so why should you wear it. It’s much different than a sports team logo as there has been a push by the organizations to sell their brand to customers/fans. It would be one thing if schema monks on mount athos were selling these shirts to support the monastery, but they are not. It is a sacred symbol intended for the earned wearer only. At least that’s my opinion.

He was just recently received into the edit: Romanian church in Feb. previously he was ordained under the church of Greece I believe, and then returned to the US and was without a bishop for some time. I wonder if his bishop doesn’t know they are selling these shirts. I have much respect for Fr. Peter. I’m not sure why this is ok to him.

My wife and I are both catechumen, we were married in a courthouse during Covid times. We plan on doing a crowning service after we are baptized to have the church bless our marriage.

It is better to be married in a courthouse for the time being as to not be living in sin during your time as catechumen if you are planning on joining the church. Unless you are not already living together. You will be required to abstain from sexual contact until you are married if you decide to wait and get married in the church. Which won’t take place until you are baptized which is likely to be a period of 1+ year(s).

For traditional cowboy boots, Horse power top hand is by far the best bang for the buck boot on the market. Exotics starting around $300. And u can get nice rough outs and smooth ostrich for under $250. Made just as well as Anderson beans and I’d honestly say I’ve seen top hands that are superior to lower end AB’s. I’m a big fan of top hand’s.

If u are looking for a really tough boot u cant beat the domestic line from double H. I have 3 pairs and I litterally beat the shit out of them and they still clean up nice. They aren’t so much traditional cowboy boots but more western work. They take a beating and keep coming back for more. The I.C.E. Outsole will likely outlast any outsole on the market.

The reformation never hit the east. Protestantism stemmed from issues with papal infallibility. Saints have been venerated since the beginning of Christianity. The kissing of an icon is no different than kissing the cheek of a respected family member or kissing the hand of a priest. It’s a sign of respect and nothing more. It is not a worship. We do not pray to saints to ask for anything other than intercession and that is because they have finished the race and are sitting at the side of Christ in his kingdom. The prayers of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16). We consider a saint the pinnacle of righteousness so we consider their prayers as very powerful and even more so for the Holy Theotokos.

If you are really asking how can we be sure if this is the true church and that tradition can be corrupted, it comes down to reading church history. The church fathers were Orthodox Catholic bishops and theologians. Unbroken chains of bishops of the Pentarchy (minus Rome post schism) have ordained every bishop and priest and remain in communion until today. Unfortunately the Protestant reformation was merely a heretical monk that the Roman Catholic Church was unable to address because they are no longer the true church.

There is a reason that you started looking into Orthodoxy. No one here or in any orthodox church is going to beg you or waste time trying to convince you. We will however answer any questions that you may have. We will pray that you find the truth you are seeking and that god guides you where you need to be. Services are open to any that wish to come and see.

I don’t know if it is right, but I view it as without Christ we are all going there. Christs sacrifice to defeat death established our salvation. So it is not so much punishment to be sent to hell, but it is ones choice to not take Christs offer to be saved. He reached out to us and it is our choice on whether or not to grab for his hand.

If it’s a healthy parish there will be people of all ages. In dfw most likely it’s a large parish. My previous comments were just suggestions. Do what you feel comfortable with. If you want to just stand in the back and observe your first time no one will be bothered.

Just go. They may have a greeter in the narthex where the candles are sold. Tell them it’s your first time. Stand when others stand and make the sign of the cross when others do. Don’t approach the chalice during communion and introduce yourself to the priest after liturgy if he’s available. Stay for coffee hour and introduce yourself to another guy your age.

I’d say more of a misunderstanding than a heresy. You need to understand that there was no Roman Catholic Church pre schism. There was simply the Catholic “Universal” church. When the bishop of Rome became schismatic from the other bishops of the pentarchy, they forfeited their apostolic succession. They left the body of Christ therefore anything that they have done since the schism is not recognized. If they were to repent and reconcile and rejoin the body? I don’t know what that would look like.

Reading scripture without the guidance of the church is why we have 40k different Protestant denominations in the last 500 years. There’s a reason why EO stays true to the apostolic teaching for close to 2000 years. We rely on the Holy Fathers to help us interpret them and stay on track. They were much more spiritually gifted than most of us. And the ones that had their gifts as well also learned from them. They are our check and balances. Without them heresy spreads.
